About the Opportunity
We are seeking an experienced Senior Project Engineer - Gas Turbine to lead the technical execution of large-scale power generation projects. This role serves as the primary engineering liaison between customers, project management teams, EPC partners, and multidisciplinary engineering groups to ensure successful project delivery.
The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with gas turbine systems, including a strong understanding of simple-cycle and combined-cycle power generation applications, and the ability to confidently lead technical discussions regarding project execution, system integration, and engineering deliverables. This position is focused on engineering design and project execution and is not responsible for construction management or commissioning activities, though technical support will be provided throughout those phases.
Position Overview
The Senior Project Engineer leads engineering and design teams while maintaining overall responsibility for technical project execution. The role serves as a critical bridge between engineering disciplines, project management, customers, and suppliers, ensuring engineering activities align with project requirements, schedules, and contractual obligations.
Candidates should possess a solid foundation in gas turbine technology and be able to discuss previous project experience, engineering contributions, and technical decision-making related to gas turbine systems and auxiliary equipment.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead engineering execution for gas turbine and power generation projects from project kickoff through completion.
- Serve as the primary technical point of contact for customers, EPC partners, Owner's Engineers, and internal stakeholders.
- Manage technical documentation, engineering scopes, project deliverables, and design requirements.
- Coordinate multidisciplinary engineering activities across mechanical, electrical, controls, and auxiliary system teams.
- Support design integration efforts to ensure project requirements and contractual obligations are met.
- Translate contract requirements and project scope into actionable engineering deliverables.
- Lead technical discussions, project reviews, design reviews, and customer meetings.
- Plan, establish, and monitor engineering execution systems, workflows, schedules, and deliverables.
- Review engineering drawings, specifications, and technical documentation for compliance and accuracy.
- Monitor engineering schedules, budgets, estimates, and technical milestones.
- Identify, escalate, and resolve technical issues and cross-disciplinary conflicts.
- Support evaluation and implementation of engineering change notices (ECNs) and contract deviations.
- Coordinate with international affiliates and global engineering teams to support project execution.
- Support equipment specification development, bid evaluations, vendor selection, and supplier coordination.
- Collaborate closely with Project Management, Global Sourcing, Quality Assurance, and vendor teams.
- Provide engineering support during construction and commissioning phases by addressing technical questions and resolving design-related issues.
- Track and resolve outstanding technical and contractual items through project completion and warranty periods.
- Ensure compliance with applicable engineering standards, codes, and client requirements.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Engineering required.
- Master's Degree in Engineering preferred.
- 5-10 years of engineering and/or power generation project experience.
- Strong knowledge of gas turbine functionality, operation, and auxiliary systems.
- Experience supporting gas turbine projects within power generation, EPC, or industrial environments.
- Ability to explain prior gas turbine experience, project responsibilities, and technical contributions in detail.
- Experience leading engineering projects and coordinating multidisciplinary teams.
- Strong organizational skills with exceptional attention to detail.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced project environment.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Professional Engineer (PE) License preferred but not required.
- Experience with both simple-cycle and combined-cycle power generation systems.
- Familiarity with gas turbine auxiliaries, mechanical systems, electrical systems, and instrumentation & controls.
- Experience with steam turbines, generators, and balance-of-plant (BOP) systems.
- Experience with SP3D, SmartPlant, PDMS, or similar 3D design platforms.
- Working knowledge of ISO procedures and OSHA safety requirements.
- International business and global project experience.
- Proficiency with MS Project, Excel, Word, Outlook, Visio, and technical diagramming tools.
- Japanese and/or Spanish language skills are a plus.
