Overview
Lars Andersen & Associates, Inc is seeking an experienced and driven Senior Development Manager to lead and oversee land development projects from acquisition through construction and final delivery. This role is critical in ensuring projects are completed on schedule, within budget, and in compliance with all regulatory requirements while maintaining high-quality standards.
The ideal candidate brings strong technical expertise, leadership capabilities, and a proven track record managing complex residential and/or commercial developments.
In addition to project execution, this role will play a key part in building and maintaining industry relationships, expanding client networks, and supporting business development efforts.
Responsibilities
- Lead the full lifecycle of land development projects, from due diligence and entitlement through construction and closeout
- Collaborative, team-oriented leadership style with the ability to build strong relationships, work across disciplines, and effectively coordinate diverse project stakeholders.
- Working knowledge of civil engineering and land surveying principles, with the ability to read and interpret civil plans, surveys, plats, easements, grading, utility, and drainage plans.
- Manage project budgets, schedules, and cash flow to ensure timely and cost-effective delivery
- Oversee site development activities including grading, utilities, drainage, and infrastructure improvements
- Coordinate with engineers, architects, contractors, and consultants to ensure alignment with project goals
- Interface with local, state, and federal agencies to secure permits, approvals, and inspections
- Conduct feasibility studies, site evaluations, and market analysis to support land acquisition decisions
- Prepare and manage bid packages, negotiate contracts, and oversee contractor performance
- Perform regular site visits to monitor progress, safety, and compliance with plans and specifications
- Identify risks and implement solutions to maintain project momentum and profitability
- Provide regular reporting and updates to executive leadership and stakeholders
- This is a field- and client-facing position. Travel is required and will include regular site visits, client meetings, public hearings, agency meetings, and other project-related travel.
- Identify and pursue new project opportunities through strategic networking and relationship building
- Serve as a key external representative of the firm, strengthening brand reputation and partnerships
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, Construction Management, Urban Planning, or related field
- 7–10+ years of progressive experience in commercial land development, real estate development, entitlements, civil engineering, construction management, or a related field, with demonstrated experience managing projects from due diligence through entitlement and development. Proven experience managing projects from raw land through final development
- Strong knowledge of site design, grading, utilities, and entitlement processes
- Experience working with municipalities and navigating permitting and regulatory approvals
- Excellent project management, negotiation, and leadership skills
- Proficiency in project management and scheduling software (e.g., Procore, MS Project, Excel)
