We are seeking a passionate and knowledgeable Middle and High School Latin Teacher to join our classical faculty. The ideal candidate will possess a deep love for the Western intellectual tradition and a commitment to cultivating intellectual virtue, moral character, and a sense of wonder in students. This educator will guide students through the incremental mastery of Latin grammar, translation, and ancient culture.
Key Responsibilities
- Instruction & Pedagogy: Design and deliver engaging Latin lessons for middle and high school students utilizing classical pedagogical techniques, such as Socratic discussion and direct instruction.
- Curriculum Execution: Implement the school’s classical Latin curriculum (e.g., Lingua Latina, Latin for Children, or Cambridge Latin series) effectively, ensuring steady progress in reading comprehension and grammatical understanding.
- Assessment: Develop and administer formative and summative assessments—including quizzes, translation exercises, and exams—to track student mastery.
- Classical Integration: Connect the study of Latin to broader subjects, including English vocabulary, ancient history, mythology, and European civilization.
- Student Mentorship: Foster a joyful, grace-filled, and orderly classroom environment that aligns with the school's core values. Serve as a mentor/advisor for students, promoting discipline and character formation.
- Communication: Maintain proactive, gracious, and consistent communication with parents regarding academic progress and classroom behavior.
- Extracurriculars: Supervise or assist with extracurricular programs such as the Latin Club or school Certamen (quiz bowl) team, if applicable.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Classics, Latin, Classical Languages, or a heavily related humanities field. A Master's degree is highly preferred.
- Experience: Previous teaching experience at the secondary level (middle or high school), specifically within a classical or liberal arts setting, is preferred.
- Subject Mastery: Strong proficiency in Latin grammar, syntax, and classical literature, along with a broad knowledge of Roman history and culture.
- Classical Philosophy: A strong commitment to the classical model of education and a desire to integrate the pursuit of truth, goodness, and beauty into daily instruction.

Pay: $51,000.00 - $55,000.00 per year
