Responsibilities
- Safely operate school buses and other authorized vehicles, including paratransit and commercial driving vehicles, following all traffic laws and safety protocols
- Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections to ensure vehicle safety, mechanical integrity, and cleanliness
- Communicate effectively with students, parents, school staff, and dispatchers to coordinate schedules and address concerns
- Manage student behavior on the bus using positive behavior management techniques to promote a safe and respectful environment
- Assist children with boarding and exiting the bus, including those requiring special accommodations or childcare support
- Maintain accurate logs of routes, mileage, incidents, and safety checks in compliance with company policies
- Respond promptly to emergencies or incidents by following established procedures and communicating with emergency responders when necessary
Qualifications
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record; commercial driver’s license (CDL) preferred but not required—training provided if necessary
- Must be able to pass a background check and drug screening.
- Proven experience in bus driving or commercial driving; prior school bus driving experience is a plus
- Strong communication skills in English; bilingual abilities are highly valued for working with diverse communities
- Knowledge of vehicle mechanical systems and basic maintenance practices
- Ability to work with children and demonstrate patience, empathy, and excellent childcare skills
- Familiarity with behavior management techniques to handle student conduct effectively
- Customer service-oriented mindset with a friendly, professional demeanor
- Ability to follow detailed routes accurately while maintaining safety standards at all times.
