The successful candidate for the position of Teacher in the Center for Gifted Youth (Grades K to 9) will provide learning experiences for children with superior intellectual ability that will deepen and extend their intellectual interests as well as develop the skills of independent learning.
Key Responsibilities:
The Fall and Spring program (K-9) meets for ten Saturdays from 9:00-12:00 p.m. The summer session (Grades 2 - 9) runs from 9:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. during the month of July. The candidate will be experienced in at least two of the following areas: STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics), Humanities, the Arts, Law, Social Sciences, Creative Writing, Biology, Earth Science, Physics, Robotics, Coding, so that they can teach more than one class.
Education Requirements:
- Master’s degree preferred
- New York State Permanent Certification (K-12) in Teacher Education
- Dual certification a plus
Training, Skills, Knowledge, Experience:
- Experience preferred in teaching academically talented students
- Excellent reading, writing and communication skills
- Knowledge of facilitating curriculum that is project and inquiry based, emphasizing critical thinking with interdisciplinary connections
- Technology expertise: knowledge of smart board technology and multi-media presentations
- Constructivist teaching style
- Evidence of originality, initiative, commitment to excellence, and enthusiasm for teaching
- Flexibility in teaching style, knowledge of cooperative learning

- The instructor will meet with the Director concerning materials and equipment needed for the class.
