Position Overview
We are seeking a high-efficiency, meticulous Ophthalmic Scrub Technician to join our specialized surgical team. This focused role is dedicated entirely to supporting our high-volume cataract and pterygium surgical days. You will be responsible for maintaining an immaculate sterile field, managing rapid and safe room turnover, and acting as the surgeon's primary assistant under the operating microscope.

Key Responsibilities
- Specialized Surgical Assisting: Scrub in and anticipate the surgeon's needs during high-volume cataract extractions (phacoemulsification) and pterygium excisions with conjunctival autografts.
- Rapid Room Turnover: Maintain an efficient rhythm during high-volume surgical days, ensuring quick, safe room transitions without compromising sterile techniques.
- Phaco & Laser Prep: Set up, test, and troubleshoot phacoemulsification machines, fluidics, and specialized surgical microscopes prior to each case.
- Graft & Glue Management: Prepare and handle delicate amniotic membranes or conjunctival autografts and prepare fibrin tissue glue for pterygium closures.
- Micro-Instrumentation Care: Set up and manage specific cataract/pterygium trays (speculums, diamond knives, capsulorhexis forceps, corneal scissors). Ensure fragile instruments are cleaned and handled with extreme care.
- Patient Safety & Counts: Confirm intraocular lens (IOL) power matches the patient's chart before opening. Conduct strict instrument and sharps counts with the circulating nurse.
Qualifications & Skills
- Education/Certification: Graduate of an accredited Surgical Technology program. Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) preferred; BLS certification required.
- Experience: Minimum of 1 year of scrub experience. Direct experience in high-volume cataract workflows is highly preferred.
- Precision Skills: Superb hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity to handle micro-sutures (9-0 to 10-0 nylon or vicryl) and microscopic instruments.
- Workflow Mastery: Strong understanding of cataract steps (capsulorhexis, phacoemulsification, cortical aspiration, IOL insertion) and the rhythm required for quick case turnarounds.
