About Beyond Young Academy
Beyond Young Academy is a growing enrichment center serving K–12 students in New Jersey. We specialize in academic enrichment, public speaking, entrepreneurship, financial literacy, mathematics, writing, and competition preparation.
We are seeking an experienced and passionate Debate Coach to join our team for Summer 2026, with the opportunity to continue teaching during the academic year.
Position Overview
The Debate Coach will lead engaging debate and public speaking programs for elementary, middle, and high school students. We are looking for someone who not only has coaching experience, but also has a strong personal background in competitive debate.
The ideal candidate enjoys mentoring young students, developing critical thinking skills, and building a long-term debate program.
Summer Responsibilities (June–August)
- Teach debate summer camp sessions
- Introduce students to debate fundamentals, argument construction, rebuttals, and public speaking
- Design age-appropriate activities and practice debates
- Provide individualized feedback to students
- Create a positive, engaging, and intellectually challenging classroom environment
Academic Year Responsibilities (September–June)
- Teach weekly debate classes
- Prepare students for debate tournaments and competitions
- Develop curriculum and lesson plans
- Mentor students in research, argumentation, and presentation skills
- Communicate student progress with academy leadership
QualificationsRequired
- Previous experience as a Debate Coach, Debate Instructor, or Speech & Debate Teacher
- Significant competitive debate experience at the high school, collegiate, or professional level
- Strong knowledge of debate formats (Public Forum, Lincoln-Douglas, Congressional Debate, Policy Debate, or similar)
- Excellent public speaking and communication skills
- Experience working with children and teenagers
- Reliable, organized, and professional
Preferred
- Competitive awards or tournament achievements
- Experience coaching students for regional or national tournaments
- Former member of a university debate team
- Teaching certification or educational background
- Experience designing debate curriculum
- Ability to teach both debate and public speaking

Compensation
Competitive hourly compensation based on experience and qualifications.
