Instructional Responsibilities
- Provide clinical instruction either in the simulation lab or at the clinical site. Typical clinical rotations are 8-12 hours per day.
- Provide direct clinical instruction and supervision to nursing students in assigned healthcare facilities.
- Facilitate the application of nursing theory to clinical practice in accordance with course and program objectives.
- Demonstrate and reinforce safe, ethical, and evidence-based nursing practices.
- Supervise student performance of clinical skills, ensuring compliance with facility policies and patient safety standards.
- Serve as a role model for professional nursing behavior, communication, and clinical judgment.
- Complete required clinical documentation, attendance records, timesheets, and evaluation reports accurately and on time.
- Report incidents, student injuries, or safety concerns according to institutional and clinical site protocols.
- Maintain records related to clinical hours and student competencies.
- Ensure the accessibility of all course content and activities to maximize learning opportunities for every student.
- Remain current on methods of teaching with technology and incorporate instructional technologies to augment instructional delivery and facilitate learning.
- Maintain accurate records of student progress and submit clinical evaluations by the established deadlines.
- Promote completion of end-of-course student evaluations.
- Foster a positive and inclusive learning environment for all students.
Clinical Preparation & Coordination
- Prepare and organize clinical experiences aligned with course objectives.
- Coordinate with clinical site staff to ensure appropriate learning opportunities for students.
- Orient students with clinical site policies, procedures, and expectations.
- Adherence to the College’s Policies and Procedures Manual.
Professional Standards & Compliance
- Maintain current knowledge of nursing practice standards, state board regulations, and accreditation requirements.
- Ensure clinical instruction complies with state board of nursing rules and institutional policies.
- Uphold confidentiality, HIPAA regulations, and ethical standards in all clinical teaching activities.
- Follow the Family Education Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) privacy requirements when disseminating student information.
Professional Development
- Maintain active, unencumbered nursing licensure.
- Participate in ongoing professional development related to clinical practice and nursing education.
- Engage in continuing education to remain current in clinical specialty areas.
