We are seeking a dependable, compassionate Veterinary Assistant who enjoys working with animals, thrives in a team environment, and is eager to learn and grow.
Position Summary
The Veterinary Assistant supports our veterinarians and veterinary technicians by assisting with patient care, appointments, treatments, and hospital operations. This position plays an important role in creating a positive experience for both pets and their owners while maintaining a clean, organized, and efficient hospital.
Responsibilities
- Assist veterinarians and veterinary technicians during examinations and treatments.
- Safely restrain dogs and cats for examinations, blood draws, vaccinations, nail trims, radiographs, and other procedures.
- Obtain patient histories and communicate information to the medical team.
- Prepare exam rooms before appointments and clean them between patients.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization throughout the hospital, including exam rooms, treatment areas, kennels, and common areas.
- Prepare laboratory samples for in-house and reference laboratory testing.
- Assist with hospitalized patient care, including feeding, walking, cleaning, and monitoring comfort.
- Prepare and administer vaccines as directed by the veterinarian.
- Review vaccination history before appointments.
- Assist with digital radiographs while following radiation safety protocols.
- Fill medications under veterinary supervision.
- Perform nail trims, ear cleanings, and anal gland expressions when trained.
- Stock exam rooms and treatment areas.
- Maintain accurate medical records.
- Provide excellent customer service and client education.
- Help keep the hospital running efficiently by assisting wherever needed.
Ideal Candidate
- At least 1 year of veterinary assistant experience preferred.
- Compassionate and patient with animals and their owners.
- Reliable, organized, and punctual.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills.
- Positive attitude with a willingness to learn.
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment.
- Able to safely handle dogs and cats of all sizes.
- Professional appearance and demeanor.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Veterinary assistant experience preferred.
- Knowledge of veterinary terminology is a plus.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, and lift throughout the day.
- Comfortable working around animals of varying temperaments.
- Basic computer skills required.
- Experience with Cornerstone Practice Management Software is a plus.
Pay: $14.00 - $16.00 per hour
