General Definition of Work: Assistant Real Property Lister (70%) - under the general supervision of the Ashland County Real Property Lister, perform a wide range of office duties including, but not limited to: assist in preparing and producing assessment rolls and tax rolls for municipalities in Ashland County, perform title searches and prepare documents for use in foreclosures of delinquent tax parcels, compose letters regarding errors in legal descriptions, conveyance documents and violations of county ordinances, prepare cutting permits for private lands in Ashland County, prepare annual reports for the auditor and town officials of county-owned properties, tax deed properties taken and sold, and delinquent tax reports, assist with land sales, answer the telephone and perform other office duties as required.
Vital Records/Real Estate Clerk (30%) - under supervision, review new death and marriage records and determine acceptability into the state vital records database, issue copies of birth, death and marriage records both from the state's vital records database and records maintained in the Register of Deeds office, provide orientation for genealogists who perform research in the office and other related duties. Possibly perform duties necessary for the recording of real estate documents, reference sources on real estate document recordings, index and access recorded real estate documents and related work.
Education & Experience: training and experience equivalent t 2 years of clerical and computer experience, 1 year experience working with real estate legal descriptions or other real estate or legal documents.
Required Knowledge and Abilities: working knowledge of standard software programs, ability to maintain strict confidentiality with vital records, ability to enter data and create and maintain accurate documents and reports with minimal errors, ability to organize well and manage time efficiently, ability to perform excellent written and oral communication, ability to communicate courteously and effectively with co-workers and the public, ability to enter money into an automated cashiering system, ability and willingness to learn new computer programs and systems as needed, ability to interpret, explain, and apply policies, regulations, laws, and procedures.
Preferred Knowledge and Abilities: knowledge of legal descriptions and a variety of real estate documents and their effect on title . Knowledge of Wi. State Statutes related to real estate instruments and recording such instruments, ability to explain and answer questions regarding the Wisconsin property taxation process, ability to explain and answer questions about legal descriptions, plats and parcel maps
Pay: $18.57 - $20.16 per hour
