The Press Operator, Molding Department performs a variety of production functions within the molding department. This would include but not be limited to: operating an injection press for plastic parts, packing parts, sonic welding, trimming, sanding, grinding, heating, and milling of plastic parts/components.
Position are available on all three shifts.
Key competencies include:
- Operate a plastics injection press, open press door, and pull the part out;
- Perform cooling operation, dip the part in water or wipe part off with alcohol;
- Trim off flash or sprue using knife, clippers, or heat gun;
- Pack finished parts in plastic wrap, bags, and/or boxes, assemble boxes, stacks or push boxes into position for pick up;
- Sand parts when needed;
- Clean/wipe off the residue from mold, spray the mold with mold release or cleaner;
- Assemble parts including snapping together, put grommets and inserts into parts, drill holes with mill, tap threads into parts using tap machine and sonic weld inserts;
- Grind sprues and rejected parts by putting them into a grinding machine;
- Inspect parts per quality criteria;
- Detect and notify inspection and shift supervisor of reject conditions found during the shift;
- Complete operator stuffer sheet and place in each carton of parts;
- Accurately account for production run quantities during a shift by completing a “Molding Operator Defect Log” sheet;
- Communicate specific job requirements to the next shift operator and receive instructions from the previous shift operator;
- Perform general cleanup in the department as required;
- Perform other duties as assigned and directed.
