Accounting Manager (Multi-Entity, AI-Forward)
Pay: $90,000-$115,000 per year, depending on experience
Job type: Full-time
Location: On-site in Roy, Utah
THE ROLE
Kippen Concrete Cutting is looking for a hands-on Accounting Manager to own day-to-day accounting and financial operations across a group of related businesses spanning construction, excavation, equipment and product sales, payroll/shared services, and real estate.
This is not a passive reporting role and it is not limited to bookkeeping. You will work directly with ownership and the operating team, keep the books accurate, run a disciplined close, manage payables and cash visibility, solve accounting issues, and build better systems. The right person enjoys doing the work, improving the process, and explaining the numbers in plain language.
Success means we know our cash position, bills are handled on time with proper approvals, monthly financials are dependable, intercompany and fixed-asset activity is clean, and leadership has useful information before decisions are made.
WHAT YOU WILL OWN
- Own the accounting records for a nine-entity business group in QuickBooks Online.
- Reconcile bank, credit-card, loan, and balance-sheet accounts weekly; investigate and resolve discrepancies promptly.
- Lead month-end and year-end close and deliver accurate accrual-basis financial statements, including balance sheet, profit and loss, cash-flow statement, and supporting schedules.
- Maintain fixed-asset and depreciation schedules, record revenue-recognition and other recurring entries, and ensure the balance sheet and income statement tie.
- Record and reconcile intercompany transactions, transfers, receivables, payables, loans, and shared expenses.
- Run accounts payable from invoice intake and coding through approval and payment using BILL, QuickBooks Bill Pay, and banking platforms.
- Monitor AP and AR aging, coordinate invoicing and collections with the office team, and surface cash or customer issues early.
- Maintain short-term and 13-week cash-flow forecasts; provide a concise weekly cash report with upcoming receipts, obligations, and recommended transfers.
- Build consolidated and entity-level KPI reporting, budgets, forecasts, and variance explanations for ownership.
- Improve construction and operating visibility through job-cost, margin, equipment, and entity-level reporting.
- Coordinate payroll accounting and payroll-provider workflows, including benefits, garnishments, taxes, and multi-state items; grow into broader payroll ownership when appropriate.
- Maintain vendor records and W-9s, coordinate 1099 filings, prepare annual tax workpapers, and work directly with the outside tax accountant.
- Provide financial packages and support for lenders, insurance, bonding, audits, and other business requests.
- Administer and improve the accounting technology stack and its integrations.
- Document close checklists, approval controls, recurring entries, account ownership, and critical procedures.
AI IS PART OF THE JOB
We want someone who is already comfortable using AI - or eager and disciplined about learning - to make accounting work faster and better.
You will identify and implement practical, controlled uses of AI for document intake, transaction research, reconciliation support, variance analysis, report drafting, workflow documentation, spreadsheet work, and recurring follow-up. You must also know where AI should not be trusted, protect confidential financial and employee information, use approved tools, preserve review and approval controls, and validate every material output before it reaches the books or leadership.
We are looking for real examples of using AI to improve a process, not simply listing AI as a skill.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Five or more years of progressive accounting experience.
- At least two years owning month-end close and financial reporting for multiple entities, business units, or locations.
- Strong QuickBooks Online skills and hands-on experience with BILL or a comparable accounts-payable platform.
- Strong working knowledge of accrual accounting, journal entries, reconciliations, fixed assets, loans, intercompany accounting, AP, AR, and cash-flow management.
- Advanced Excel or Google Sheets skills.
- Ability to move between detailed transaction work and owner-level reporting without losing accuracy.
- Strong follow-through, documentation, judgment, and communication.
- Willingness to work on-site in Roy, Utah.
- Practical experience with AI tools in a professional workflow, with clear attention to confidentiality, review, and internal controls.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field.
- CPA or CMA, active or inactive.
- Construction accounting, job costing, WIP, or project-accounting experience.
- Experience supporting payroll, multi-state compliance, 1099s, tax workpapers, insurance, bonding, or lender reporting.
- Experience with inventory, ecommerce, Shopify, TaxJar, CenPoint, LiveFlow, or similar connected systems.
- Experience improving a fragmented accounting process or bringing an outsourced accounting function in-house.
WHAT WE OFFER
- A visible role with direct access to ownership and real authority to improve the accounting function.
- A varied group of operating businesses with meaningful, practical accounting work.
- The opportunity to build an AI-forward finance operation with clear human controls.
