EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
As a HVAC Refrigeration Maintenance Mechanic, you will be supporting the operation, maintenance, and repair of HVAC and refrigeration systems that keep DGS facilities safe and comfortable. Work involves helping to maintain proper air flow, temperature control, and equipment performance across various buildings. You will also have the opportunity to work with outside contractors, agency representatives, and other trade staff regarding the design, installation, operation, and maintenance of HVAC systems and equipment. In this role, you will perform the following duties: Equipment Evaluation: Assess comfort issues, inspect equipment, and make adjustments to correct deficienciesPreventative Maintenance: Replace filters, clean coils, inspect components, and repair worn or damaged partsTesting Skills: Use meters and test instruments to measure performance and identify irregular readingsSystem Repairs: Repair HVAC components such as valves, motors, dampers, and fansInstallation Work: Install basic HVAC units including split systems, window units, and ventilation equipmentRefrigerant Handling: Prepare equipment for disposal and recover refrigerants according to EPA regulationsNote: This position is considered essential.
