SQF Coordinator is responsible for maintaining, improving, and verifying the effectiveness of the site's Food Safety and Quality Management System in compliance with the Safe Quality Food (SQF). This position works cross-functionally with Quality, Operations, Regulatory, and Food Safety teams to ensure ongoing compliance, continuous improvement, and audit readiness.
Key Responsibilities
SQF System Management & Compliance
- Coordinate with the Quality team to prepare required content for the Management Review in accordance with SQF.
- Coordinate Monthly Management Updates and communicate SQF-related performance metrics and initiatives.
- Monitor and communicate relevant industry, legal, regulatory, and customer requirement updates to appropriate teams.
- Ensure the Food Safety Program remains compliant with SQF requirements.
- Conduct a quarterly review of the Food Safety Program to verify system effectiveness and continued compliance with SQF standards.
- Facilitate Food Safety Team meetings to identify and implement updates based on operational changes, hazards, products, processes, and regulatory requirements.
Program Oversight & Continuous Improvement
- Perform monthly reviews of:
- Out-of-Specification (OOS) results
- Corrective and Preventive Actions (CAPAs)
- Product complaints
- Other food safety and quality system issues
- Follow up on outstanding corrective actions and compliance gaps.
- Provide recommendations for process improvements and risk mitigation strategies.
- Participate in and review risk assessments as required.
Food Defense, Food Fraud & Crisis Management
- Coordinate and evaluate the Food Defense test and document results.
- Maintain and continuously improve the Food Fraud Program.
- Conduct reviews of the Food Fraud Vulnerability Assessment.
- Coordinate and evaluate Mock Recall and Traceability exercises.
- Coordinate and evaluate Mock Crisis Management exercises.
Auditing & Corrective Actions
- Plan and conduct internal audits against the SQF Code.
- Identify nonconformances, system gaps, and opportunities for improvement.
- Develop, recommend, and monitor corrective actions to closure.
- Support external audits, customer audits, regulatory inspections, and SQF certification audits.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Food Science, Microbiology, Quality Assurance, or related field preferred.
- SQF Practitioner certification or equivalent food safety certification preferred.
- Working knowledge of SQF requirements.
- Experience with HACCP, Food Defense, Food Fraud, Internal Auditing, CAPA management, and risk assessments.
- Strong organizational, communication, and project management skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and quality management systems.
Preferred Experience
- 2–5 years of experience in food safety, quality assurance, or SQF program management within a food manufacturing environment.
- Experience coordinating audits and other inspections.
This position plays a critical role in maintaining SQF certification, driving continuous improvement, and ensuring the highest standards of food safety and quality throughout the organization. Pay for this position will be based on the candidate's experience, qualifications, and demonstrated knowledge of SQF and food safety systems.
