The Glendive Police Department is currently accepting applications for the position of Patrol Officer. We are seeking dedicated, community-oriented individuals who are committed to protecting and serving the citizens of Glendive with integrity, professionalism, and respect. This is a full-time position involving 12-hour rotating shifts, including days, nights, weekends, and holidays.
Patrol Officers play a vital role in ensuring the safety and security of the community by performing general law enforcement duties, including crime prevention, investigation, traffic enforcement, and emergency response. The ideal candidate will exhibit sound judgment, physical and mental fitness, strong communication skills, and the ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Conduct proactive police patrols within the city limits to deter and detect criminal activity.
- Respond promptly and professionally to emergency and non-emergency calls for service.
- Perform preliminary and follow-up criminal investigations.
- Enforce all state and local laws, traffic regulations, and city ordinances.
- Make arrests, prepare reports, and testify in court as needed.
- Provide assistance to the public, including conflict resolution and community outreach.
- Prepare clear and accurate incident and investigative reports.
- Operate department vehicles and equipment safely and efficiently.
- Collaborate with other law enforcement agencies and public safety partners.
- Engage in ongoing training and professional development.
- Perform other related law enforcement duties as assigned by supervisors.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Must be a United States citizen.
- Must possess or be able to obtain a valid Montana Driver's License prior to employment.
- Must have a High School diploma or GED; additional education (Associate, Bachelor’s, or Master’s degree receive incentives) preferred.
- Must be of good moral character and demonstrate honesty, integrity, and professionalism.
- Must pass a comprehensive background investigation, including a criminal history check.
- Must meet Montana POST physical fitness standards.
- Must not have any felony convictions or convictions that would disqualify the applicant from possessing a firearm.
- Must be legally eligible to carry a firearm.
- Montana POST Certification is not required at the time of application but is preferred. Applicants without certification must be willing and able to complete POST training.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Previous law enforcement, military, or security experience.
- Current or prior Montana POST certification.
- Strong knowledge of modern policing practices, criminal law, and community policing principles.
- Bilingual ability is a plus.
Compensation and Benefits:
- Starting Salary: $5,071 per month ($60,860.00 annually), plus $2.00/hour night shift differential.
