Job Summary
We are seeking a compassionate, patient, and dependable caregiver to provide one-on-one support for an autistic child in a private home setting. This role focuses on helping the child with daily routines, personal care, safety, communication, emotional regulation, and social engagement while maintaining a calm, structured, and supportive environment. The ideal candidate will be attentive, respectful, consistent, and committed to supporting the child’s independence, comfort, and overall well-being.
Responsibilities
- Provide attentive, respectful, and compassionate care tailored to the child’s individual needs, routines, strengths, and preferences.
- Assist with daily living activities, which may include dressing, grooming, toileting, hygiene, meals, and age-appropriate self-care skills.
- Support structured daily routines and transitions using patience, consistency, verbal prompts, visual supports, or other strategies preferred by the family.
- Promote the child’s safety and well-being at all times, including close supervision in the home and during approved activities.
- Encourage communication and social engagement in ways that match the child’s abilities and comfort level.
- Help the child practice independence, coping skills, emotional regulation, and positive behavior strategies as directed by the family or care plan.
- Recognize potential triggers, sensory needs, or signs of distress and respond calmly using supportive de-escalation techniques.
- Prepare simple meals or snacks and assist with feeding needs as appropriate.
- Provide light housekeeping related to the child’s care, such as cleaning up activity areas, dishes used for meals, or laundry as requested.
- Document observations, progress, concerns, or changes in behavior and communicate them promptly to the parent or guardian.
- Collaborate respectfully with family members, therapists, teachers, or other care professionals when needed.
Qualifications and Experience
- Previous caregiving, childcare, personal care assistance, respite care, or similar experience preferred.
- Experience supporting autistic children or individuals with developmental disabilities is strongly preferred.
- Ability to follow an individualized care plan, family instructions, and established routines with consistency.
- Strong patience, empathy, dependability, flexibility, and communication skills.
- Comfortable supporting personal care needs while preserving dignity and respect.
- Ability to remain calm and supportive during challenging moments, transitions, or sensory-related distress.
- Must be reliable, punctual, trustworthy, and able to maintain confidentiality.
- CPR/First Aid certification is preferred or willingness to obtain certification if required.
- Must meet any background check or screening requirements requested by the family or employer.
Preferred Skills
Familiarity with autism support strategies, visual schedules, sensory needs, positive behavior supports, communication tools, or therapy follow-through is helpful but not required. Training may be provided for the right candidate.

Pay: $16.00 - $18.00 per hour
