The City of Bellevue is a leader in developing innovative capital transportation projects which include many differing modes of travel. With a population of more than 150,000, it is the fifth largest city in the State of Washington and spans more than 31 square miles between Lake Washington and Lake Sammamish. We are seeking a full-time
Senior Construction Project Inspector to lead a variety of construction inspection activities for City Transportation Capital Improvement (CIP) projects.
Open until filled - reviewing candidates on a constant basis. EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
- Inspect Transportation Capital Improvement projects, including streets, sidewalks and trails, bicycle facilities, walls, bridges and tunnels, utilities, signals, ITS and lighting systems, planting and restoration areas for compliance with approved plans, specifications, and contract agreements as well as applicable Federal, State, and City standards, permits, codes, and regulations.

Documents contractors daily work efforts, staffing and equipment through daily inspection reports.

Interpret plans and specifications and evaluate deviations from specified construction procedures and work with the construction management team to identify impacts, estimate any associated cost, and evaluate deviation's affecting the project budget and schedule.

Resolve in the field, features of the construction plans and specifications that are in conflict with existing features or will not work as designed. Requires field decisions to be made quickly so contractor’s work may proceed without delays.

Prepare payment estimates by measuring, calculating, preparing documentation and monitoring contract payments, force account work, and change orders.

Review of preliminary and final plans and specifications for compliance with engineering standards and constructability.

Coordinate and facilitate meetings and work progress with design and construction project managers, contractors, subcontractors, other inspectors, consultants, other city staff, property owners (citizens and businesses), franchise utilities, and local, state, and federal agencies.

Maintain constant awareness of progress on assigned projects. Ensure proper schedule and progress documentation.

Ensure proper construction procedures and materials are utilized in the construction of projects.

Inspects, directs, and approves activities for proper use and placement of traffic control devices to assure compliance with Traffic Control Plans, the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices and permit conditions.

Oversees and verifies compliance with ADA requirements.

Communicate professionally and effectively with City consultant inspectors, consulting engineers, contractors, property owners, businesses, city staff, media, and the public.
Supervision Received and Exercised:

Works under the direct supervision of the Sr. Construction Inspection Supervisor.

Works as part of a construction management team assigned to specific projects under the general authority of the assigned construction project manager.

Works as part of the overall Construction Division under the general supervision of the Construction Division Manager.

Standard work hours will be from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Monday thru Friday (work hours may change to accommodate contractor work activity).
