Personal Care Assistant (PCA) — 2nd Shift
The Oaks of Alamance · Burlington, NC
PART-TIME · 2ND SHIFT · 3:00 PM – 11:00 PM · EVERY OTHER WEEKEND
About Us
The Oaks of Alamance is an assisted living and memory care community in Burlington, NC. We're part of The Affordable Senior Housing Foundation, and we're building a team that takes real pride in how our residents are cared for.
About the Role
We're hiring part-time Personal Care Assistants for second shift, 3:00 PM to 11:00 PM, every other weekend. You'll provide hands-on daily care to residents in our assisted living and memory care units, working alongside medication aides and a supervisor on every shift.
Second shift covers dinner at 5:00 and the evening snack at 6:30, along with evening care and getting residents settled for the night. It is also when sundowning is most common in memory care, so patience and a calm presence matter here.
What You'll Do
- Assist residents with activities of daily living — bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting, and mobility
- Complete all assigned showers
- Assist with transfers and repositioning, including safe use of mobility equipment
- Escort and assist residents to and from the dining room for dinner
- Assist during dinner service — positioning, feeding assistance where needed, and keeping walkways clear of wheelchairs and walkers
- Ensure residents receive their evening snack
- Encourage fluids and hydration through the evening
- Provide evening care — assist residents with changing for bed, oral care, and settling in for the night
- Complete toileting rounds before bedtime
- Redirect and reassure residents experiencing sundowning, particularly in memory care
- Escort and assist residents to evening activities
- Complete two-hour rounds and respond promptly to call lights
- Reposition and turn residents according to care plans
- Make beds, turn down beds, and manage resident laundry and linens
- Clean wheelchairs and mobility equipment
- Restock hall supplies for the overnight shift — briefs, gloves, wipes, and personal care items
- Sanitize call buttons, handrails, and high-touch surfaces
- Submit work orders for maintenance issues found during rounds
- Complete two-hour check sheets, assignment sheets, and end-of-day documentation accurately and on time
- Complete skin assessments and all charting in black ink
- Report changes in resident condition to your supervisor or the Resident Care Coordinator promptly
- Communicate resident updates clearly at shift change
- Maintain resident privacy and dignity, and follow all HIPAA requirements
- Keep resident areas clean, safe, and free of hazards
- Other duties as assigned
Schedule
- Second shift, 3:00 PM – 11:00 PM
- Every other weekend
- Part-time, consistent scheduling — we build the schedule in advance and stick to it
