Job Description: Teacher/Assistant Teacher
Mission Statement: To develop the whole child physically, emotionally, socially, mentally,and spiritually.
Purpose of Position: To provide a safe and nurturing environment for children.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Implement The Creative Curriculum and COR Objectives
- Plan and implement activities that promote intellectual, emotional, social, and physical growth according to his/her needs.
- Follow the curriculum guidelines set out in The Creative Curriculum.
- Complete weekly observations and add documentation to Teaching Strategies Gold.
- Infants: 5 observations/week
- Toddlers: 10 observations/week
- Preschool: 10 observations/week
- Collaborate with ALL team members in the classroom to create meaningful lesson plans and activities.
- Maintain a safe and clean environment.
- Prepare meals using safe food handling techniques.
- Follow all policies and procedures of ITAVA and the State of Michigan.
- Be familiar with the Parent Handbook, Employee Handbook, and Licensing Regulations for the State of Michigan.
- Be familiar with emergency procedures.
- Attend 24 hours of professional meetings, educational conferences, staff meetings, and teacher training workshops in order to maintain compliance with the State of Michigan Standards and improve professional competence.
- Supervise/Teach Children
- Ensure ratios, as outlined in The State of Michigan Licensing rules, are followed at all times.
- Provide various experiences and activities for all children as outlined in the curriculum.
- Build children’s self esteem.
- Establish a classroom daily schedule.
- Implement positive redirection as needed.
- Effectively communicate in a manner that children understand.
- Observe children and make daily observations regarding development in the classroom.
- Establish a diverse and inclusive classroom environment that fosters equality for all individuals, irrespective of gender, race, or those who require additional support.
- Communication
- Discuss children’s development with parents as needed.
- Attend parent/teacher conferences twice a year.
- Discuss identified problems and specific needs of children with appropriate professionals.
Qualifications:
- Education:
- Minimum High School Diploma
- CDA/Associates Degree
- Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood or related field.
- Experience:
- Previous teaching experience required and/or experience working with young children.
- Personal Qualities:
- Display a friendly demeanor, possess excellent interpersonal skills, are self-motivated, have the ability to maintain composure under pressure, and are adaptable to changes in the workplace.
- The ability to collaborate and engage with team members in a professional and respectful manner is required.
- Physical Abilities:
- Lift/carry up to 40 lbs.
- Walk, squat, kneel, see, hear, speak, and sit on the floor to engage with children.
- Other:
- Pass a TB skin test
- Complete a Federal and State Background Check
- Complete 24 hours of Professional Development training yearly
- Must obtain CPR/First Aid Certification within 30 days of hire
- Must Complete Michigan Health and Safety Training courses within 90 days of hire
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: Up to $15.00 per hour
