Position Title: Physical Therapist Assistant
Salary Scale: M.10.A
Calendar: 10 month

Purpose:To provide therapeutic programs to all eligible students in order to enhance the student’s educational and therapeutic program under the direction and supervision of a Physical Therapist.
Essential Functions:
Provide physical therapy services under the direction and supervision of a Physical Therapist. Implement components of student care, obtain data related to treatments provided, and collaborate with the PT to modify care as necessary.
A. Skilled Practice
Promotes the student's independence in self-care tasks and locomotion. The treatment and prevention of disability, injury, disease, or other health condition and the rehabilitation of said impairments through therapeutic exercise; functional movement training; manual therapy; patient-related instruction; and the use of equipment in the application of such treatment.
B. Equipment Assistance
Utilizes equipment and assistive devices appropriate for the student's needs. Increases the student's functioning through the use of adaptive and assistive devices.
C. Service Delivery
Follows documented plans of care or intervention plans or protocols developed by the Physical Therapist
D. Public Relations
Treats every interaction with respect and compassion. Supports VRA in public relations by upholding and enforcing board policy, administrative procedures, and school rules and regulations, and is supportive of them to the public. Maintains appropriate work habits, including regular and punctual attendance and appropriate use of conference and planning time. Strives to communicate the positive aspects of our school program to the public in word and deed. Works cooperatively with parents to strengthen the educational program for their children. Establishes and maintains cooperative relations with other staff.
E. Professional Growth
Continues professional growth through attendance at workshops, seminars, conferences, and/or advanced coursework at institutions of higher learning. Actively participates in the supervision process, as defined by the Florida Board of Physical Therapy. Maintains a valid Florida license as a Physical Therapist Assistant issued by the Florida Board of Physical Therapy. Maintains eligibility for a Florida Medicaid number, as outlined by state requirements.
F. Treatment Documentation
Documents student performance and reports this information to the supervising PT. Performs duties necessary to maintain the accountability required for the instructional program and as required by governmental and supervising agencies. Respects the confidentiality of records and information regarding students, parents, and teachers in accordance with accepted professional ethics, and state and federal laws. Also, assists with clerical duties and departmental operations, such as preparing materials and scheduling activities. Performs checks and maintenance of equipment.
Non-Essential Functions:Performs other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:Ability to work cooperatively with parents and agencies in providing services to students. Ability to develop concepts and ideas and relate both in oral and written form. Knowledge of child development. Must possess strong interpersonal skills and have the ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively with students, teams, and groups. Ability to consult with teachers, school staff and parents regarding the influence of specific deficits on the students’ classroom and school environment. Bilingual/biliterate preferred.
Education, Experience and/or Certification/License Requirements:Graduation from an accredited Physical Therapist Assistant program accredited by the Commision on Accreditation for Physical Therapy Education (CAPTE); Meet all eligibility requirements for licensure outlined by the Florida Board of Physical Therapy; and Passage of the Florida Laws and Rules Examination. Must hold a valid license in Physical Therapist Assistant from the Florida Board of Physical Therapy.
Work Context:
Requires some sitting and standing, walking and moving about to coordinate work. Requires the use of communication systems, such as electronic mail, telephones, and computers. Requires coordination of work tasks to establish priorities, set goals and meet deadlines. Requires face-to-face discussions and contact with individuals and/or teams. Requires work with students, parents, internal and external contacts, and with the public.
Physical Environment:Requires working indoors in environmentally controlled conditions. May require working outdoors as well with exposure to outdoor elements including weather changes, foliage, insects, etc. Requires sitting, standing, and the ability to lift, carry, move and/or position objects frequently weighing up to 35 pounds and infrequently weighing more than 35 pounds.
