American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a PCU/Clinical Decision Unit night shift position in Hermitage, TN, requiring a minimum of 2 years of experience and ACLS certification.

Located in a hospital-based PCU/Clinical Decision Unit (CDU) serving a progressive care patient population
-
Unit spans two cost centers: dept 630 (34 beds) and dept 633 (25 beds)
-
Patient ratios are 1:4–1:5 on days and 1:5–1:6 on nights
-
Tech support available: 3 techs when full on dept 630 and 2 techs when full on dept 633
-
Equipment used includes BiPAPs, high-flow O2, Vapotherm, Alaris pumps, cardiac drips, heparin drips, insulin drips, peritoneal dialysis equipment, and wound vacs
-
EMR system is Meditech
-
Night shift: 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM, three 12-hour shifts per week

Every other weekend requirement

Floating may be required between PCU units or to med-surg floors

13-week contract

Active TN or Compact RN license required
-
Current BLS and ACLS certifications (AHA or ARC accepted; must not expire within the first 30 days of the assignment start)

NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification required for PCU RNs
-
Minimum 2 years of recent PCU or progressive care RN experience
-
Strong critical thinking skills with EKG rhythm interpretation ability
-
Experience with cardiac drips, insulin drips, and heparin drips required
-
Experience with BiPAPs, high-flow O2, and multiple oxygen delivery systems required
-
Experience with stroke and post-cardiac cath patient care required
-
Peripheral IV skills required
-
US SSN and date of birth required for consideration
-
One professional reference required (two required if licensed in Florida or Missouri)
-
No gaps in work history of 90 days or more within the past 12 months
-
Procedures performed on the unit include peritoneal dialysis, thoracentesis, paracentesis, chest tube insertions, Dobhoff/NG tube insertions, central line dressing changes, and wound vac troubleshooting
-
Peritoneal dialysis experience is preferred but not required
-
Experience with tube feedings and NG/Dobhoff tubes is preferred
-
Patient experience standards include hourly rounding on days, every-2-hour rounding on nights, AIDET communication practices, and communication board maintenance
-
Unit uses self-scheduling with 4-week schedule blocks

Black scrubs required

Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility — local candidates are not eligible

The unit has a strong teamwork and family-like culture; many travelers extend their contracts after their first assignment on the PCU
