Defense contractor involved with product development and manufacturing of various systems for military aerospace and vehicles in the Los Angeles International Airport area is searching for an experienced buyer. With a 50+ year foundation, The Marvin Group supports all branches of the Department of Defense and allies around the globe on an array of programs and platforms. We support many military prime contractors including Lockheed Martin, General Dynamics, BAE and others.
SCOPE
As a buyer, you will be responsible for procuremenet of various commodities including but not limited to machined parts, sheet metal, assemblies, servcies and others as required in defense environment in support of existing contracts and customer commitments. As a member of an Integrated Product Team (IPT) the buyer will work closely with manufacturing, planning, engineering, quality, production control and inventory control staff to service the production programs’ purchasing requirements.
RESPONSIBILITIES
This position entails various procurement functions including request for quotes, generating purchase orders, communication with products and service vendors, working with accounting, receiving and inspection teams, support material disposition fuction (MRB) among other assigned duties. Must be flexible and be able to work in a fast paced environment in groups or individually. Ideal candidate should also preferably posees prior procurmenet experience of mechanical components and assemblies to handle the requirements of this role when needed.
Support procurement activities of various commodities including machined, casting, fabricated components, etc.
Display a commitment to the on time delivery of quality products
Communicate concisely with all internal and external stakeholders as required
Perform vendor follow ups on open orders and all other correspondences
Have strong negotiations skills
Capable of working with vendors in various capacities, i.e. RFQs, negotiations, returns, credits, account reconciliation, delivery follow ups, and others as required
Support materials disposition (MRB) activities
Capable of understanding and interpreting mechanical drawings
Interact with cross functional team including manufacturing, engineering, materials, quality, planning, production, program management, contracts and vendors as required
Be self-starter, highly organized, outgoing with excellent people and communication skills
Ability to work in fast-paced manufacturing environment with on-time delivery as a priority
Ability to support new vendor identification, supplier visits and assessment for source selection
Have high personal and professional integrity
SKILLS / REQUIREMENTS
Bachelor's Degree in business or APICS certificate in supply chain is a plus
Fluent English Read / Write
High level knowledge of manufacturing processess and supply chain including casting, machining, sheet metal fabrication and metal finishing is a plus
Minimum of 10 years of procurement experience preferrably in defense or aerospace with direct materials and commodities is highly desired
Prior familiarity and experience with defense industry acquisition FAR/DFARs regulations as well as government contractual requirements is highly desired.
Basic knowledge of computer software, specifically Microsoft products, i.e. MS Word and Excel skills
ERP System experience specially SAP is a plus.
Self-motivated to excel, act upon and achieve best possible results
Have excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Must be able to lift up to 35 lbs
