The Cellar Worker is an essential, entry-level position supporting the daily operations of the production floor. This role is heavily focused on cleaning, sanitization, and material handling. It is a highly physical job that offers a ground-floor opportunity to learn commercial mead production from the inside out.
Key Responsibilities
- Cleaning & Sanitization: Perform routine CIP (Clean-in-Place) procedures on fermentation tanks, brite tanks, hoses, and fittings to ensure a sterile production environment.
- Packaging Operations: Assist on the canning and bottling lines. Responsibilities include loading empty containers, monitoring fill levels and seaming, catching and packing finished product, and palletizing cases.
- Wholesale Order Fulfillment: Pick, build, shrink-wrap, and stage pallets for our wholesale distribution across an 18-state footprint. Ensure outbound orders are highly accurate and secure for freight pickup.
- Material Handling: Assist in receiving, organizing, and maneuvering heavy raw materials, including safely handling 55-gallon honey drums, fruits, spices and other brewing ingredients.
- Production Support: Assist the production team with mead transfers, filtering, and packaging runs (kegging and bottling).
- Facility Maintenance: Maintain a clean, safe, and organized cellar workspace, including scrubbing floors, emptying trash, and cleaning exterior tank surfaces.
- Record Keeping: Help accurately log cleaning schedules and basic production metrics as directed.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Physical Capability: Must be able to repeatedly lift 50+ lbs, safely maneuver pallet jacks, and stand, bend, or crouch for extended periods in a wet production environment.
- Attention to Detail: A strong understanding that 90% of commercial brewing and mead-making is cleaning. Strict adherence to safety and sanitization protocols is non-negotiable.
- Work Ethic: Reliable, punctual, and willing to tackle repetitive, physically demanding tasks with a positive attitude.
- Team Player: Ability to take direction well, communicate clearly with the production team, and adapt to shifting daily priorities.
- Experience: No prior commercial production experience is required, though a passion for craft beverages and a willingness to learn are highly valued.
