About the Opportunity
A well-established, multidisciplinary engineering and consulting firm is seeking an experienced Survey Party Chief to join its growing team. This position offers the opportunity to lead field crews on a diverse range of land development, infrastructure, transportation, and construction projects.
The successful candidate will bring strong hands-on surveying experience, leadership abilities, and a commitment to accuracy and quality. This individual will work closely with survey and engineering professionals while taking a lead role in the successful execution of field operations.
What You'll Do
- Lead and manage a survey field crew on boundary, topographic, construction layout, stakeout, and as-built survey projects.
- Perform and oversee field measurements using total stations, GPS/GNSS equipment, and electronic data collectors.
- Establish, recover, and verify survey control points and benchmarks.
- Perform construction layout and verify grades, alignments, elevations, and other project requirements.
- Maintain accurate and organized field notes, sketches, and electronic survey data.
- Review field data for accuracy, completeness, and consistency before submission to the office.
- Coordinate with office staff and project teams regarding schedules, project priorities, deliverables, and field requirements.
- Ensure field operations are completed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with project specifications and company standards.
- Assist with training, mentoring, and developing junior survey field personnel.
- Support a variety of projects while maintaining a strong focus on productivity, quality, and client service.
Qualifications
Required
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- 5+ years of land surveying experience, including previous experience leading or supervising survey field crews.
- Strong knowledge of land surveying principles, field procedures, and construction layout.
- Proficiency using total stations, GPS/GNSS equipment, and electronic data collectors.
- Ability to read and interpret survey plans, construction drawings, specifications, and engineering documents.
- Strong organizational, communication, and leadership skills.
- Excellent attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
- Valid driver's license.
Preferred
- Associate's degree or additional technical education in surveying, civil engineering technology, or a related field.
- Experience supporting land development, transportation, infrastructure, or construction projects.
- Pennsylvania and/or New Jersey Professional Land Surveyor (PLS) licensure or progress toward licensure a PLUS!
- Experience training or mentoring junior survey personnel.
