Loudoun Test Prep is seeking reflective, passionate, and articulate educators and writers to join our elite team in preparing students for a Writing Assessment which serves as a key component of admission to a local highly competitive STEM-based magnet HS program. Our Writing course is structured around developing students’ analytical thinking, structured argumentation, and writing fluency, all within the unique context of a high-stakes admissions test taken by 8th-grade students. With training and support from our experienced staff of educators and writing professionals, instructors help students sharpen their skills through small-group workshops, individual sessions, and structured writing routines. This position offers an excellent balance between creative autonomy and team collaboration, while aligning with the seasonal testing schedule.

Hours: Classes are taught in 8-week sessions leading up to the program’s entrance exams, with additional sessions in spring and summer.Consistent availability during an 8-week session is essential for student success.
Sample Availability Windows:
- Monday–Thursday: 5:00 pm – 9:00 pm
- Saturday/Sunday: 10:00 am – 6:00 pm Some individual sessions may occur outside these times.
Compensation:
- $35–40/hr starting wage, depending on experience and qualifications.
- Includes a paid 4–8 week training and shadowing period.
Hours per Week: 15–25 hours, depending on availability.

Responsibilities and Duties:
- Teach students how to respond effectively to multi-part writing prompts using logic, clarity, and structure aligned to the test rubric.
- Focus on reasoning, original thought, logical reasoning, and rhetorical strategy.
- Guide students through the development of persuasive essays within timed settings.
- Assign targeted, meaningful practice to reinforce growth, never busywork.
- Provide thoughtful written and verbal feedback that supports improvement.
- Collaborate with parents and team members to communicate student progress.
- Reflect on and refine your own understanding of writing through the teaching process.
Qualifications:
- BA/BS in English, Education, History, Journalism, Philosophy, or a STEM field with strong writing experience.
- Prior teaching, tutoring, or mentoring experience is preferred.
- Strong command of logic, structure, and the craft of written argument.
- Willingness to learn and apply the specific expectations of the test rubric.
- A short writing sample and/or in-house assessment may be requested.
