The LPN (Licensed Practical Nurse) is responsible for providing on-site, basic medical care and treatment to patients in a substance abuse residential program. The LPN will also provide assistance to the Medical Director, while maintaining medical reporting in patient files. The LPN will provide clinical support and technical assistance to the medical staff.
EDUCATION, TRAINING, QUALIFICATIONS, AND EXPERIENCE:
- Must possess a valid license to practice nursing in the state of Louisiana, plus possess a minimum of one-year practical nursing experience.
- Some knowledge of addictive disorders and HIV and other STIs helpful.
- Experience in Utilization Review with insurance companies (pre-auth, concurrent reviews) helpful.
- Must be able to perform ongoing education on medications, their effects, use, and alternatives. Basic knowledge in alternative medicines and treatment, along with substance abuse treatment experience preferred.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Transcribes Physician orders.
- Monitors medication, lab work, and unit supplies in a cost-effective manner.
- Performs lab procedures, such as draw blood work if needed.
- Fill/maintains client medication boxes.
- Reviews all assessments: lab data and client history; report to Administrator.
- Assists with staff scheduling as needed under the direction of the Administrator.
- Provides individual health counseling concerning HIV and TB testing under the direct supervision of the Administrator.
- Schedules outside appointments as needed.
ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Ability to work with clinical staff, works well under pressure, and multitask within a multidisciplinary.
