Director of Human Resources
Position Summary:
The Director of Human Resources serves as a strategic partner to the President/CEO and leadership team, aligning human capital initiatives with the credit union’s mission, core values, culture, and business objectives. This role oversees all aspects of human resources, including talent management, employee relations, compensation, benefits, and regulatory compliance.
The Director ensures that all HR policies, programs, and practices comply with applicable federal and state laws and are appropriate for a federally regulated financial institution. This position balances strategic leadership with hands on execution appropriate for a mid-sized credit union.
Key Responsibilities:
Strategic Leadership & Organizational Development
- Partner with the President/CEO and leadership to develop and execute HR strategies that support the credit union’s strategic plan.
- Advise leadership on workforce planning, succession planning, and organizational design.
- Promote a culture aligned with the credit union’s values, member focus, and regulatory expectations.
Human Resources Administration
- Develop, implement, and maintain HR policies, procedures, and the employee handbook.
- Ensure consistency, fairness, and compliance across all HR practices.
- Maintain HR metrics and provide reporting to leadership for informed decision-making.
Talent Acquisition & Retention
- Lead full-cycle recruitment efforts to attract, select, and retain qualified candidates.
- Develop staffing strategies aligned with organizational growth and operational needs.
- Oversee onboarding and exit processes to enhance employee experience and retention.
Employee Relations & Performance Management
- Serve as a trusted advisor to management and staff on employee relations matters.
- Guide and support managers in performance management, coaching, and disciplinary actions.
- Oversee and continuously improve the performance evaluation process.
Compensation & Benefits
- Administer and evaluate compensation structures to ensure competitiveness and equity.
- Oversee employee benefits programs, including vendor relationships and annual renewals.
- Provide recommendations based on market data and organizational needs.
Training & Development
- Design and deliver training programs related to HR compliance, leadership development, and employee growth.
- Identify development opportunities and support career progression initiatives.
Compliance & Risk Management
- Ensure compliance with all applicable federal and state employment laws and regulations (e.g., FLSA, FMLA, ADA, EEOC).
- Maintain HR-related records in accordance with legal and regulatory requirements.
- Monitor changes in employment law and proactively update policies and practices.
- Support internal and external audits related to HR and personnel records.
Additional Duties
- Oversee records retention and destruction related to HR documentation.
- Support enterprise risk management efforts as they relate to human capital.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Strong knowledge of employment law and HR compliance in a regulated environment.
- Ability to assess risk and provide practical, compliant solutions.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, and conflict resolution skills.
- Demonstrated ability to build relationships and influence at all levels of the organization.
- Strong organizational and project management skills with attention to detail.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment.
Education and Experience:
Required:
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field.
- Minimum of 7–10 years of progressive HR experience, including 3–5 years in a leadership role.
- Experience in a financial institution or similarly regulated environment is strongly preferred.
Highly Desired:
- Professional HR certification such as:
- SHRM-CP or SHRM-SCP (Society for Human Resource Management), or
- PHR or SPHR (HR Certification Institute)
- Experience with federal credit union regulations and working knowledge of NCUA expectations.

Pay: $65,000.00 - $85,000.00 per year
