Overview
Behnken Concrete LLC is seeking an experienced Heavy Equipment Operator to join our curb installation team. This position is ideal for someone with a strong background operating heavy equipment on commercial construction jobsites who is looking to take their skills to the next level.
The successful candidate will operate a Miller Formless curb machine used for the installation of concrete curb and related flatwork. Experience operating a Miller Formless machine is preferred, but we are willing to train the right heavy equipment operator who demonstrates mechanical aptitude, attention to detail, jobsite awareness, and a strong work ethic.
This is a hands-on position for someone who takes pride in operating equipment safely, efficiently, and accurately while helping the crew complete quality work.
Primary Responsibilities
- Safely and efficiently operate the Miller Formless curb machine while maintaining proper production speed, vibration, concrete slump, and machine adjustments.
- Learn and understand the capabilities of the curb machine, including its engine, hydraulic, electrical, vibration, sensor, and water systems.
- Perform daily equipment inspections and basic maintenance.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and properly serviced machine. Take pride in the equipment you operate.
- Learn to properly change and adjust molds, vibrators, sensors, and trimmers.
- Properly set up the machine on the string line and make adjustments for offset, grade, elevation, and alignment.
- Use mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills to identify equipment problems and work with the shop and management team to find solutions.
- Safely load and unload equipment from trailers and properly secure equipment for transportation.
- Develop an understanding of how concrete slump, mix consistency, vibration, and machine speed affect the finished curb.
- Calculate or assist with calculating concrete yardage, production yield, footage, spacing, and material requirements.
- Effectively communicate with ready-mix suppliers
- Direct and coordinate ready-mix trucks while maintaining safe and efficient jobsite operations.
- Monitor production and track installed footage and concrete yield.
- Communicate effectively with the Foreman, finishers, laborers, truck drivers, and other members of the crew.
- Assist with jobsite preparation and cleanup, safely shovel or assist with placing concrete into the curb machine hopper when necessary.
- Be willing to perform other duties necessary to keep the crew productive and complete the project successfully.
- Be a team player. Help the entire crew succeed—not just the equipment you are operating.
Heavy Equipment Experience
The ideal candidate will have previous experience operating construction equipment.
Miller Formless experience is a plus, but not required. Candidates with strong heavy equipment experience and mechanical aptitude will be considered for training on the Miller Formless curb machine.

- Ability to communicate effectively with coworkers, supervisors, and suppliers
- Dependable attendance and strong work ethic

- Willingness to learn the Miller Formless curb machine and concrete curb installation process
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs. over rough terrain
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions
- Ability to work around concrete, construction traffic, and active jobsites
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience operating a Miller Formless curb machine
- Commercial concrete or sitework experience
- Experience reading construction plans or site layouts
- Basic understanding of concrete placement
- Class A CDL – preferred and a significant plus
- Previous experience transporting or loading heavy equipment
- Strong mechanical or diesel equipment background

Compensation & Schedule
- Hourly Position
- Approximately 40–55 hours per week
- Typically 5 days per week
- Pay based on experience and qualifications
- Overtime opportunities available
- Start time will be consistent based on the job schedule
- End time may vary depending on jobsite conditions and production requirements
Pay: $30.00 - $40.00 per hour
