Job Summary
We are seeking a detail-oriented and motivated Medical Billing and Coding Specialist to join our healthcare team. Responsibilities
- Review and interpret medical records, including clinical documentation, to assign appropriate ICD-10, ICD-9, CPT, and DRG codes in accordance with current medical coding guidelines.
- Ensure accurate electronic health record (EHR) management for billing and coding purposes using specialized billing software and EMR/EHR systems.
- Process health insurance claims efficiently, verifying coverage details, submitting claims to third-party payers, and following up on unpaid or denied claims to maximize revenue recovery.
- Maintain comprehensive knowledge of health insurance policies, claim processing procedures, and revenue cycle management best practices.
- Collaborate with healthcare providers to clarify documentation discrepancies and ensure proper coding for inpatient services and outpatient procedures.
- Stay updated on changes in medical coding standards such as ICD-10 updates and CPT coding revisions to ensure ongoing compliance.
- Assist in medical collection efforts by following up on outstanding balances and resolving billing issues with patients or insurance companies.
Requirements
- Proven experience in medical office settings with a strong understanding of medical terminology, medical records management, and billing processes.
- Proficiency in using billing software, EMR systems, EHR systems, and electronic health record (EHR) management for billing and coding tasks.
- In-depth knowledge of ICD-10, ICD-9, CPT coding systems, DRG classifications, and medical coding guidelines for inpatient and outpatient services.
- Familiarity with health insurance claim processing, third-party billing procedures, and revenue cycle management strategies.
- Strong attention to detail with excellent organizational skills to ensure accuracy in coding and billing activities.
- Ability to interpret complex medical documentation accurately while adhering to industry standards.
- Effective communication skills for collaborating with healthcare providers, insurance companies, and patients regarding billing issues.
