JOB The purpose of the class is to ensure that residential and commercial building construction complies with applicable building, mechanical, electrical, and plumbing codes; to make responsible decisions on determinations of hazardous or substandard conditions for existing structures; and to perform related technical and administrative work as required. This class works according to some procedures but decides how or when to do things; work is reviewed regularly by supervisor.

THIS POST IS BEING EXTENDED. EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
- Performs routine to moderately complex inspections and enforcements of site development, building, electrical, gas, mechanical, plumbing and fire prevention codes.
- Investigates and enforces all adopted regulatory codes and ordinances pertaining to building construction, such as mechanical, electrical and plumbing codes.
- Checks vehicle and plans inspection route.
- Participates in the inspection of manufactured housing units.
- Performs daily inspections as assigned making determinations of hazardous or substandard conditions for existing structures and compliance of building codes and ordinances. Reviews any code changes with appropriate parties.
- Prepares and maintains inspection reports for each complaint and county ordinances violation, and issues notices of correction.
- Follows-up on buildings without permits, unsafe structures or other outstanding issues.
- Inspects and enforces flood plain regulations
- Posts sewer notices
- Performs duties in relation to new ordinances and amendments that reflect new codes or requirements.
- Prepares a variety of studies, reports and related information for decision-making purposes.
- Receives and responds to inquiries, concerns, complaints and requests for assistance regarding areas of responsibility.
- Attends training, conferences, and meetings, to enhance job knowledge and skills and maintain certifications.
- Performs general administrative/clerical work as required, including preparing reports and correspondence, entering and retrieving computer data, copying and filing documents, attending and conducting meetings, etc.
- Performs other related job duties as assigned.
