Employment Status: Temporary based on annual contract. No benefits associated with this position.
FLSA Status: Eligible for Overtime
Description: The van driver will transport students as assigned both safely and on-time.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Ensures safety of students, taking all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities.

Provides transportation of students to and from school or other destinations as assigned by the transportation supervisor.

Operates the assigned vehicle according to motor vehicle laws.

Upholds district policy with regard to procedures involving transporting students.

Practices defensive driving techniques while maintaining established routes and time schedules always keeping safety as the top priority.

Transports authorized students only.
-
Picks up and drops off students only at approved stops.

Performs daily pre trip and post trip inspections and completing all required documentation relating to this duty.

Reports any defect or concern to mechanics.

Monitors student behavior and reports any concerns to the proper building administrator as needed.

Assumes responsibility for interior cleanliness of the vehicle and exterior windows in order to maintain visibility.

Follows proper protocol when operating communication equipment located in the van.

Responsible for fueling the vehicle and securing documentation related to refueling costs.

Completes all necessary documentation accurately and in a timely manner.

Knowledge of vehicle safety laws and regulations.

Minimum Qualifications

High School diploma or general education degree (GED)
-
Minimum 18 years of age with 2 years of driving experience.

Valid driver’s license.

Satisfactory completion of BCI and FBI background check
-
Physically qualified as determined by a designated medical provider according to rule 3308.83.07 in the Ohio Revised Code.

Complete a 4 hour minimum Ohio preservice driver curriculum followed by a driving performance evaluation with the district’s On Board Instructor.

Complete 2 hour annual in-service training as provided by the district.
Physical Demands and Workings Conditions

Required to have dexterity of hands and fingers.

Specific vision abilities required include close vision and ability to adjust focus.

Required to sit for extended periods of time.

Regularly required to bend at the waist, kneel, crouch, reach, climb and stretch with hands and arms.

Required to report to work on all scheduled workdays.

Occasionally required to carry van students during emergency evacuations.

Required to operate a motor vehicle in potentially adverse weather conditions.

Occasional exposure to blood, bodily fluid and tissue.

Occasional interaction among unruly children.

Occasionally required to speak and hear.
-
Occasional interaction with special needs or handicapped students.
