We are seeking an energetic and passionate Youth Music Director to inspire and lead young musicians in a vibrant, creative, church environment. This paid position offers an exciting opportunity to shape the musical experiences of children and adolescents (ages 5-18), fostering their artistic growth and love for music, with a focus on social justice. The ideal candidate will bring a dynamic approach to curriculum development, teaching, and classroom management, ensuring every participant feels motivated, supported, and empowered through engaging musical activities.
Responsibilities
- Design and implement comprehensive music curricula for weekly rehearsals tailored for youth of various ages, including early childhood and preschool levels.
- Lead engaging music classes that incorporate singing, instrument playing, movement, and improvisation to enhance musical understanding.
- Manage classroom environments effectively, maintaining positive behavior and encouraging participation among diverse groups of children.
- Assist the Director of Arts-Based Youth Ministry on Sunday mornings with creative activities and classroom management.
- Collaborate with staff and volunteers to plan, lead, and develop age-appropriate youth special events, including the annual Christmas Pageant and intergenerational worship services.
- Collaborate with parents, teachers, and community partners to support students’ artistic development and coordinate special projects such as theater productions or dance performances.
- Maintain clear, consistent, and appropriate communication with church staff and the congregation at large.
- Consistent availability for Youth Group Wednesday evenings (5:30 pm - 7 pm) and Faith Formation Sunday mornings (9 am-11 am) from September - June
Expected scheduled hours include:
- Teaching and facilitating Youth Group on Wednesdays from 5:30–7:00 pm
- Supporting Faith Formation on Sundays from 9:00–11:00 am
- Providing an additional 6–8 hours per week of administrative, event-planning, communication, and program support
Skills
- Experience with and passion for working with children and teens
- Experience teaching music to students of all ages and levels
- Experience incorporating community engagement or social justice programming preferred
- Ability to adapt teaching strategies for students with special needs or unique learning styles.

Compensation: $35/hour for Youth Group teaching and facilitation on Wednesday evenings and $18/hour for Faith Formation support, administrative responsibilities, event coordination, and ministry support work.
This position runs September through June. Hours may vary based on seasonal programming needs.
