Position Summary
Six Maritime is seeking an experienced marine technician and unmanned surface vessel operator to provide forward-deployed maintenance and operational support in the United Arab Emirates.
This is a hands-on, independent Field Service Representative position that combines small-craft maintenance, marine electronics, communications troubleshooting, unmanned vessel operation, autonomous mission planning, and ground-control-station watchstanding. This is not solely a marine-mechanic position.
The selected candidate must be comfortable troubleshooting mechanical, electrical, electronic, software, and communications problems in a remote operating environment. The individual will work closely with deployed personnel, local contractors, and U.S.-based technical experts to maintain system readiness and support unmanned maritime operations.
Primary Responsibilities
Marine Maintenance and Technical Support
- Perform scheduled and corrective maintenance on unmanned surface vessels and associated support equipment.
- Troubleshoot and repair mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, propulsion, steering, and fuel-system failures.
- Diagnose marine-electronics, navigation, power-distribution, network, and control-system faults.
- Troubleshoot command-and-control software and integrated vessel systems with remote support from U.S.-based subject-matter experts.
- Troubleshoot satellite, radio, mesh-network, and locally sourced communications systems.
- Conduct inspections, identify emerging maintenance requirements, and track component service intervals.
- Maintain accurate maintenance logs, discrepancy reports, repair records, and equipment-status reports.
- Identify required parts and coordinate sourcing, shipment, and installation.
- Maintain trailers, support equipment, tools, and associated mission systems.
USV Operations and Mission Support
- Operate unmanned surface vessels using remote hand controllers and ground-control systems.
- Create, review, and execute autonomous vessel missions using mission-planning software.
- Develop underway routes and survey areas in support of operational requirements.
- Stand extended watches at a ground control station to monitor mission progress and vessel status.
- Adjust routes and mission parameters in response to changing conditions.
- Read electronic navigational charts and monitor radar and sensor contacts.
- Evaluate vessel traffic and recommend course corrections consistent with COLREGS and safe-navigation practices.
- Assist with the deployment and operation of side-scan sonar and other maritime sensor systems.
- Review side-scan sonar waterfall and three-dimensional imagery to help identify potential targets or objects of interest.
- Support the launch, recovery, fueling, trailering, and pier-side handling of unmanned vessels.
- Conduct line-handling and other small-craft support duties as required.
Logistics and Local Coordination
- Coordinate with local contractors for crane, fueling, transportation, and pier operations.
- Trailer vessels between storage, maintenance, and launch locations.
- Coordinate maintenance and operational requirements with the on-site customer and U.S.-based program staff.
- Track operational needs, equipment status, consumables, and replacement parts.
- Support safe execution of all maintenance, launch, recovery, and underway evolutions.
Required Qualifications
- At least five years of hands-on experience maintaining military, commercial, or high-performance small craft.
- Strong experience troubleshooting marine mechanical and electrical systems.
- Experience with gasoline or diesel marine engines, propulsion systems, steering systems, marine electronics, and vessel-support equipment.
- Demonstrated ability to diagnose problems and perform repairs without continuous direct supervision.
- Working knowledge of electronic navigation, radar, GPS, marine communications, and vessel electrical systems.
- Ability to read technical manuals, wiring diagrams, schematics, and maintenance procedures.
- Familiarity with COLREGS and safe small-craft operating practices.
- Strong computer skills and the ability to learn new command-and-control and mission-planning software.
- Ability to communicate effectively with remote technical experts and accurately describe system faults.
- Ability to maintain detailed maintenance and operational records.
- Valid U.S. driver’s license.

- Ability to lift and carry tools, equipment, lines, and vessel components associated with small-craft operations.
- Willingness to work irregular hours, extended watches, nights, weekends, and mission-driven schedules when required.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior experience operating, maintaining, or supporting unmanned surface vessels or other remotely operated maritime systems.
- Experience creating or executing autonomous maritime missions.
- Experience standing watch at a ground control station or remote-operations center.
- Experience with marine command-and-control systems, IP-based networks, SATCOM, mesh radios, and remote vessel controls.
- Experience operating or interpreting side-scan sonar or other maritime sensor systems.
- Military small-craft, EOD, special warfare, target-vessel, survey, hydrographic, or maritime test-and-evaluation experience.

Working Conditions
This position operates in a demanding forward-deployed environment. The employee must be capable of working independently, making sound technical and operational decisions, and maintaining a high level of professionalism around military personnel, customers, contractors, and international partners.
Work may include prolonged outdoor activity, high heat and humidity, extended ground-control-station watches, pier-side operations, trailering, launch and recovery, line handling, and work aboard small vessels.
Travel and Deployment
- Rotational deployment of approximately 90 days in the UAE followed by approximately 90 days off rotation.
- Company-coordinated international airfare, lodging, local transportation, work authorization, and authorized deployment expenses.
- Initial deployment timing is subject to customer approval, completion of onboarding, and applicable entry and work-authorization requirements.
- Candidates must be prepared to complete pre-deployment training and coordinate remotely with the currently deployed maintainer before traveling.
