OverviewThe Leyla Strong Foundation is seeking a detail-oriented and mission-driven Volunteer Grant Writer or Grant Writing Intern to support our growing nonprofit organization. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys research, writing, storytelling, and helping secure funding for meaningful community programs.
The Grant Writer will assist with identifying funding opportunities, preparing grant proposals, organizing required documents, and helping the foundation build a strong grant application process. This is a great opportunity for a student, intern, emerging grant writer, or experienced volunteer looking to gain nonprofit experience while supporting children with neurological disabilities and the families who care for them.
About Leyla Strong FoundationThe Leyla Strong Foundation is a Clayton County-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that supports children with neurological disabilities and their families. Through inclusive play dates, family-centered events, resource connections, emergency family support, and recognition programs, we create safe, joyful, and welcoming spaces where children can play, connect, and feel celebrated.
ResponsibilitiesResearch potential grant opportunities from foundations, corporations, government programs, and community funding sources.
Assist with writing and editing grant proposals, letters of inquiry, program summaries, and funding requests.
Help gather information about the foundation’s programs, impact, needs, and budget details for grant applications.
Track grant deadlines, requirements, submissions, and reporting dates.
Support the organization of grant-related documents such as the 501(c)(3) letter, W-9, program descriptions, budgets, sponsorship information, and impact statements.
Assist with proofreading applications and ensuring proposals are clear, professional, and aligned with funder priorities.
Help create a simple grant tracking system using Google Sheets, Excel, or another easy-to-use platform.
Support follow-up communication and reporting for awarded grants when needed.
QualificationsNo degree is required.
Interns, students, emerging grant writers, and volunteers are encouraged to apply.
Strong writing, research, and communication skills.
Attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines.
Interest in nonprofit work, disability advocacy, children’s programs, community outreach, or family support services.
Experience with grant writing, fundraising, nonprofit administration, communications, social work, public health, English, or business is a plus but not required.
Ability to work independently and communicate updates clearly.
Comfort using Google Docs, Google Sheets, Canva, email, or similar tools is helpful.
Preferred but Not RequiredPrevious grant writing experience.
Experience researching foundation, corporate, or community grants.
Knowledge of nonprofit programs or fundraising.
College coursework in nonprofit management, communications, public relations, social work, public health, English, business, or a related field.
