About the role
We are seeking a Sr. Staff or Principal Engineer to join our ALC architecture team which, is responsible for ensuring that multiple optical, photonic, electronic, and mechanical components and processes will come together in a working optical datacom product. This role works closely with the NPI team to ensure that all components are fully characterized, verified, optimized for performance + reliability and passed on to operations team through deep technical understanding, sharp critique of supplier test data & technical explanations, technical design review, and evaluation of qualification data. An experienced product engineer with deep expertise in optoelectronic components and RF electronics is needed to join this team.
Base salary range is $180,000 – $250,000 a year. The base salary offer will depend on factors such as education, experience, training, skills, qualifications, and location. This position is also eligible for a discretionary bonus, equity and a full range of medical and other benefits.

Responsibilities
- Provide authoritative guidance and feedback to component suppliers, contract manufacturers, and Credo engineering team on test methodology, performance results, designs, and processes.
- Develop specifications for optical emitters, detectors, optics, optical fiber cables and connectors, electronics, boards, substrates, and software.
- Work closely with the New Product Introduction (NPI) team to ensure that all optical and photonic components supplied to Credo are aligned to technical goals for performance, quality, and reliability.
- Analysis of vendor-supplied and Credo-measured data, including potential impact on product system performance.
- Work with team members across the global Credo and supplier eco-system to advance preferred designs to meet new product introduction goals for performance and schedule.
- Coordinate with development team and suppliers in developing robust reliability test and validation plans, analysis and models that can project HAST data into long-term lifetime, failure rate and failure model projections.
- Provide expertise and technical guidance, serve as a mentor to junior engineers, and as a technical resource for senior management.
- Serve as the Technicial Lead for Design for Manufacturing (DFM) initiatives and yield improvement projects at early development stages to resolve issues prior to mass production.
Qualifications
- PhD in Electrical Engineering, Physics or a related field
- 10+ years of R&D experience in the optical transceiver industry
- Hands-on technical knowledge of optical interconnect systems and components and experience in bringing optical/semiconductor components together into a system that can be scaled in high-volume manufacturing.
- Proven success in technology development & product introduction to high volume production with overseas suppliers and contract manufacturers.
- Experience with multimode fiber and parallel optical interconnect products
- Strong understanding of RF waveforms, signal formats, circuits, and signal integrity relevant to high-speed optical communication.
- Proficiency with tools used for data analysis, design, and simulation
- Strong collaboration, adaptability in dynamic environments, and a customer-focused approach to driving change and delivering results
- Flexibility to travel up to 20% internationally
