Sugar Bowl Corporation d/b/a Sugar Bowl Resort, located in Norden, California, seeks temporary Chefs to join our culinary team. Sugar Bowl is one of California's most beloved mountain destinations - a place where guests come to make memories and team members come to love what they do. We're currently seeking talented, passionate Chefs to bring exceptional culinary experiences to life season after season.
Beyond the line, our Chefs are leaders. You'll maintain the cleanliness and organization of your station and the kitchen as a whole, uphold all state and federal food safety and sanitation standards, and help inspect food preparation and serving areas to ensure every meal is handled with care. Strong knife skills, the ability to execute recipes with precision, and a commitment to station standards are essential - as is contributing to ordering, inventory management, and kitchen sanitation audits as needed. You'll lead by example through your professionalism, grooming standards, and dedication to craft, delivering exceptional service to guests and teammates alike.

Sugar Bowl Resort has been proudly independent for over 80 years and is one of the oldest ski resorts in California. Situated atop beautiful Donner Summit, Sugar Bowl has a storied past with ties to Austrian ski culture, Hollywood and Walt Disney. This special community helped bring skiing to “sunny California” since December 1939. Since then, it continues to attract adventurous winter sports enthusiasts alike.
Who You Are:
- You have a minimum of six (6) months of culinary experience in a fine-dining or high-volume setting at a high-end restaurant, resort, or private club
- You are a skilled culinarian who brings precision, creativity, and passion to every plate - quality is never compromised in your kitchen
- You have strong knife skills and the ability to execute recipes consistently and with confidence
- You are a natural leader who sets the standard through professionalism, grooming, and dedication to craft
- You thrive in fast-paced, high-pressure kitchen environments and hold yourself and those around you accountable
- You are comfortable working evenings, weekends, and holidays as part of a rotating schedule
- Personal transportation to and from the resort is your responsibility
What You’ll do:
- Prepare season, and cook a full range of menu items including soups, meats, vegetables, desserts, and house specialties
- Execute all cooking techniques with confidence and consistency - sauté, grill, broil, bake, poach, fry, and braise
- Craft house-made sauces, soups, and specialty items to recipe standards with attention to flavor, texture, and presentation
- Execute complex plating and uphold the highest standards of food quality across every dish leaving your station
- Maintain cleanliness, organization, and sanitation of your station and the kitchen as a whole
- Uphold all state and federal food safety and sanitation standards at all times
- Assist with food preparation and serving area inspections to ensure every meal is handled with care
- Contribute to ordering, inventory management, and kitchen sanitation audits as needed
- Lead by example - mentor teammates, model professionalism, and support a positive kitchen culture
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to stand and work on your feet for the duration of a full shift in a hot, fast-paced kitchen environment
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs (supply deliveries, equipment, bulk ingredients)
- Comfortable working in varying temperatures including hot cooking lines and cold storage areas
- Manual dexterity and stamina required for repetitive tasks including chopping, slicing, and plating
Optional Housing:
Optional on-site housing is available on a first-come, first-served basis for workers relocating to begin employment.
- Cost: $375.00 – $750.00 per month (utilities included); rate varies by room type and occupancy
- Housing cost deducted in installments of half the monthly rate from the first two paychecks of each month
- A refundable security deposit equal to half the monthly rate is required upon acceptance, paid directly to the employer
- Security deposit refunded based on condition of housing upon departure
Travel & Transportation Assistance:
Sugar Bowl Resort is committed to supporting H-2B workers with travel costs as follows:
- Workers who complete 50% of the contract period will be reimbursed for inbound transportation and subsistence from their place of recruitment to the resort
- Upon completion of the work contract (or early dismissal by the employer), the employer will cover reasonable return transportation and subsistence costs
- All inbound transportation and subsistence costs will be reimbursed within the first work week
- All outbound transportation and subsistence costs will be reimbursed during the last workweek
- Reimbursement based on the most economical and reasonable common carrier for distances involved
- Daily subsistence during travel: $16.78 per day; up to $68.00 per day with receipts
H-2B Program Information:
- H-2B workers will be reimbursed in the first workweek for all visa, visa processing, border crossing, and government-mandated fees (excluding passport fees)
- The employer guarantees to offer work for hours equal to at least three-fourths (3/4) of the workdays in each 12-week period of the total employment period
- The employer will provide all tools, supplies, and equipment required to perform the job at no charge to the worker
- All legally required paycheck deductions will be made
- A pre-employment background check is required and completed at the employer's expense
- On-the-job training is provided
