Job Overview
The Health & Safety Coordinator is responsible for maintaining a safe and secure environment for students, faculty, staff, administration, and visitors on campus and at off-site school-related events. The person in this role will report to the Director of Security and serve as a key deputy in their absence. They are often the first to respond to emergencies, medical incidents, and threats to safety. The Health & Safety Coordinator is tasked with a unique, critical role that must balance a welcoming and supportive learning and development environment with the need to enforce standards as issues arise and engage with various stakeholders within the community. One must be able to work collaboratively with others to create a safe and healthy educational setting. In addition, this individual has technical knowledge, interpersonal skills, and extensive training, making them well-equipped to respond to situations quickly and appropriately.
Responsibilities
Be aware, understand, and comply with the Flintridge Preparatory School policies and procedures.
Protection of and prevention of loss of life for all students, employees, and any visitor on campus before, during, and after school hours and for events that may occur on or off campus.
Provide pedestrian and vehicular safety ingress and egress from the campus.
Respond to classroom incidents or emergency medical inquiries quickly.
Oversee vendor access to the campus, as needed and necessary.
Partner with neighboring schools for event management.
Coordinate with the local sheriff department and fire department during emergencies.
Interface with local sheriff/police department as needed, for incidents that occur on campus and off campus, for school-related events.
Partner with the Director of Security and serve as a key deputy in their absence.
Serve as key administrator and point of contact for the Verkada security system.
Monitor incoming and outgoing traffic, utilizing School Pass.
Monitor security systems to prevent and respond to potential threats.
Serve as a point of contact for students, staff, administration, and visitors who have safety concerns or require assistance.
Complete annual training required prior to the start of every school year, during the summer months.
Attend Health & Safety Committee meetings, as needed.
Enforce the School's rules and regulations, including those related to parking, indigent loitering, and behavior on campus.
Document and report any incidents and/or irregularities that occur on campus, such as theft, vandalism, or accidents.
Conduct regular patrols of the campus to deter crime, ensure safety, and identify any suspicious activity or safety hazard.
Maintain first aid and CPR certification.
Foster a warm, inclusive environment.
Comply with duties as delegated in the School's emergency preparedness plan.

Skills & Qualifications Required
CA guard card required and a minimum of 2 years of experience, preferably in a secondary educational setting.
Must be able to work a flexible work schedule, including evenings, Saturdays, and occasional holidays, including overtime.
Knowledge of emergency procedures and the ability to remain calm and take charge in the event of an emergency.
Ability to notice unusual or suspicious behavior, potential safety hazards, and any changes in the environment that may require attention.
Commitment to ongoing training and professional development to stay current with best practices.
Keen at handling sensitive situations with discretion, maintaining confidentiality when dealing with students, parents, and employees’ issues.
The ability to interact respectfully, professionally, and effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds and cultures.
The ability to assess situations quickly and make decisions to resolve the issues effectively and efficiently.
Dependable and reliable.
Great work ethic and communication skills, be easy & flexible to work with, and take initiative and ownership of any situation.
Ability to walk and stand for extended periods of time.
The ability to remain calm during emergencies, providing clear instructions and coordinating with emergency services.
Provide a helpful and approachable presence, assisting individuals with directions, information, and other needs.
Pay: $75,000.00 - $80,000.00 per year
