DESCRIPTION:
Indian Community School, Inc. is seeking a qualified Music Teacher (1.0 FTE). A successful teacher in this position will ensure a high-quality music program for elementary and middle school students (K4-8) that utilizes best practices. The ICS music program is offered in an equitable, multicultural setting and teaches all children to think deeply, critically, and creatively. The ideal candidate will possess strong background, knowledge, and skills that support a positive, engaging learning environment by demonstrating the following:
- Knowledge of elementary and middle school aged children.
- Knowledge in understanding the Wisconsin Academic Standards for Music.
- Passion for music education and a high level of enthusiasm for teaching.
- Collaboration with school staff to integrate culture and core academic content into authentic musical experiences.
- Ensure that students have opportunities to demonstrate their music learning through performances and events.
- Utilize formative and summative assessment data to inform instruction and provide feedback toward student growth and improvement.
- Develop effective lessons, units, and assessments that are aligned to ICS Learning Targets.
- Implement best instructional practices to provide student-centered learning environments that encourage voice and choice, creativity, and critical thinking to ensure the success of all students.
- Knowledge or experience in inquiry-based practices such as Project Based Learning.
- Incorporate outdoor learning environments into lessons and units.
- Implement effective classroom management strategies that focus on building positive relationships with students.
- Evaluate students' academic and social growth, keep appropriate records, and prepare progress reports.
- Effectively communicate with families related to the learning environment and progress of individual students.
- Demonstrate flexibility with use of changing technology both in the classroom and a part of professional planning.
- Proactively participate and collaborate with other staff in all-staff and faculty meetings, curriculum team meetings, educational conferences, school committees and professional development seminars and workshops.
- Actively participate in learning about American Indian culture, language, traditions, and the Seven Sacred Gifts.
- Integrate the Our Ways Teaching and Learning Framework™ into all aspects of the music program.
- Build and maintain professional relationships with students, families, staff, and administration that are positive, constructive, and focused on team collaboration.
- Demonstration of strong organization, time-management, and oral, written, technical, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Commitment to ongoing professional growth and development.
- Comply with State Laws in reporting suspected child abuse and neglect.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s Degree
- Possess, or be eligible for WI DPI teaching license for music
- Successful teaching experience in urban school(s) preferred
- Acceptable background check and drug screen
Pay: $49,000.00 - $60,000.00 per year
