Southampton Union Free School District is seeking qualified internal applicants to serve as MBK Indigenous Mentors for the school year.
Positions Available: 3
Term: September 7, 2026 - June 30, 2027
Compensation: $2,500
Responsibilities
- Facilitate meetings twice a month with the SHS or SIS Shinnecock MBK Mentoring Groups to implement the mentoring curriculum provided by the Shinnecock MBK Coordinator.
- Attend mentor training facilitated by the Shinnecock MBK Coordinator.
- Serve as a positive role model for the mentees and provide emotional support and guidance to help them navigate both school and life.
- Encourage Academic Success by discussing grades, attendance, study habits and goal setting.
- Help mentees develop life skills such as communication, leadership, problem solving, decision making, and conflict resolution.
- Create spaces where our young Shinnecock men feel seen, heard, and valued.
- Help mentees celebrate cultural identity, strengthen self-worth, and confidence.
- Attend field trips (college tours, leadership workshops, career exploration etc.).
- Assist in facilitating Shinnecock MBK events.
Requirements
- High School Diploma
- NYS Department of Education Fingerprint Clearance
- Active relationships with Shinnecock MBK students & families is required
