TITLE: Supervisor ED Patient Access
JOB OVERVIEW: The Supervisor, ED Patient Access is responsible for ensuring the department meets patient and organizational expectations for access to care. This position supervises the day-to-day access operations and staff responsible for ED registrations, and patient intake processes. Responsibilities include adherence to standardized processes for registration procedures to ensure accurate data collection, a positive patient experience, and effective coordination between clinical and Revenue Cycle teams. This position is responsible for understanding, evaluating, and maintaining ED staff schedules to accommodate all patient flow volumes. The Supervisor position is responsible for identifying quality and workflow improvement opportunities, providing orientation and training of new staff, developing/maintaining educational programs, providing training to support staff skill development and ensuring accuracy and compliance in the department to operate efficiently and effectively.
This role shall serve as a collaborator and subject matter expert. As such, they work in a professional manner, with a high level of patience, tolerance, and grace, with all departments throughout the organization. Understanding that there are an unlimited number of perspectives and motivations - all of which must be considered and respected. Work will be done with a EDI lens check in an effort to be culturally sensitive.
DEPARTMENT: ED Patient Access
WORK HOURS: 1.0 FTE Evening shift 5 PM - 1:30 AM and 1.0 FTE Day shift 4:30 AM - 1 PM. As required to fulfill responsibilities, including on-call availability outside core business hours (24X7). On call is one week at a time, 24/7 - call is shared with other patient access leaders, it is anticipated call would be approximately once every 4 weeks, barring any vacancies. This leader is expected to be on campus at the hospital at least 3 days per week, Monday through Friday during business hours.

PREREQUISITES:
Minimum three (3) years experience overseeing Patient Access and Revenue Cycle processes in a complex billing environment, developing and managing customer service functions, and other supervisory experience preferred.
Ability to use various computer applications, including Microsoft Office, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Visio, and Outlook required.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Able to use Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook, and learn hospital, clinical and financial systems.
Demonstrates "hands on" knowledge of the functions within the ED Patient Access Department such as registration, insurance carriers, customer service, and upfront cash collections.
UNIQUE PHYSICAL / MENTAL DEMANDS, ENVIRONMENT AND WORKING CONDITIONS:
Must be able to interact professionally and effectively with a wide variety of people, including operations staff, providers, the general public, and departments in UW Medicine/Valley Medical Center (VMC).
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
Actively participates in the hiring process in ED Admitting and, as requested, in Main Admitting, contributes to the interview process and provides feedback on candidates.
Assists in training regarding root cause denial issues that pertain to ED staff performance, for the purpose of denial prevention training opportunities, increased upfront cash collections and to ensure correct reimbursement is received from payers.
Works closely and maintains effective relationships with the Emergency Department clinical staff, Financial Access, Patient Financial Services, HIM, Patient Access, Information Technology and other hospital departments.
Acts as a resource to Manager for system / workflow / process improvements between Patient Access, Financial Access, Patient Financial Services, HIM and VMC's IT departments pertaining to ED registration.
