The Boys Breaking Through program is a character development initiative to empower adolescent boys by helping them cultivate strong virtues such as resilience, empathy, leadership, and self-confidence. We seek a passionate and dedicated Male Program Facilitator to lead group sessions, foster a supportive environment, and guide participants through meaningful learning experiences. The facilitator will deliver pre-designed sessions, lead interactive activities, and encourage open dialogue to help adolescent girls and boys develop the skills and mindset to thrive in all areas of life. The facilitator will act as a guide and mentor, not just a teacher. This role is ideal for someone passionate about youth development and empowering young boys to reach their full potential.
PROGRAM FACILITATOR’S KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Purpose, People, and Process Focus: As a facilitator, ensure the smooth flow of the session by being familiar with the purpose, understanding the participants, and managing the learning process effectively.
- Meetings and Training: Attend regular meetings and training sessions as required by the GRS and BBT programs.
- Session Guidance: Facilitate group activities, manage time, encourage meaningful discussions, and keep conversations on track, ensuring a healthy group dynamic.
- Use Active Learning Techniques: Use a variety of engaging methods like role-playing, group discussions, and active learning to encourage participants to arrive at their own conclusions and deeper understanding.
- Open-Ended Questioning: Maintain a curious mindset, asking open-ended questions that drive collaboration and problem-solving.
- Safe Learning Environment: Ensure the learning environment is welcoming, inclusive, and supportive of all participants, fostering confidence and self-expression.
- Communication with Parents/Guardians: Regularly update parents/guardians, address any concerns about participants, and send reminders for upcoming sessions.
- Debrief Sessions: Meet with program director (virtual), within three days after each session to debrief and refine content.
SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience: Prior experience working with youth, particularly in girls’ programs, empowerment initiatives, or education, is preferred.
- Communication: Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to inspire, motivate, and engage young participants.
- Leadership: A background in facilitating workshops, leading groups, or coaching is beneficial.
- Mindset: A growth-oriented mindset, fostering curiosity, open-ended discussions, and collaborative learning.
- Cultural Sensitivity: Ability to create a culturally inclusive environment that respects diversity.
KEY EXPECTATIONS
- Participation: Attend all scheduled program sessions, typically held weekly, and arrive early to prepare.
- Preparation: Spend time reviewing session materials and preparing activities in advance to ensure a smooth experience for participants.
- Mentorship: Act as a role model for participants, embodying the values of confidence, empathy, and leadership.
REQUIREMENTS
- Minimum of 35 college credit hours, a undergraduate degree ; a degree in education, social work, psychology, or a related field is preferred.
- Experience working with adolescents, particularly in a mentoring or coaching capacity.
- Strong understanding of social and emotional learning principles.
- Availability to commit to leading sessions for the full duration of the program (typically 10-12 sessions implemented either weekly or biweekly, each session is 2- 2.5 hours in duration).
- Ability to pass a background check and obtain necessary clearances.
- Program Hours: 7 hours of total paid time for each session when one a week. Multiple sessions of the same content delivered weekly at various locations have less paid prep hours.
- In-person facilitation is paid at a higher hourly rate for a maximum of 3 hrs/per session
- Prep work leading up to facilitation is paid at a lower hourly rate for a maximum of 4 hours/session
- Semester 1 Dates: Sept - Mid Dec, day/time/locations to be finalized
- 10-12 sessions weekly or biweekly.
