Job Summary
We are seeking a passionate and dedicated Assistant Teacher to join our vibrant educational team. In this role, you will support lead teachers in creating a nurturing, inclusive, and stimulating environment for children across various age groups, including toddlers, preschoolers, and early elementary students. Duties
- Assist lead teachers in planning and executing engaging lesson plans aligned with curriculum standards such as Montessori, early childhood education principles, and literacy and math development.
- Support classroom management by promoting positive behavior strategies and maintaining a safe, organized learning environment.
- Work closely with students with disabilities or special education needs, including those requiring Deaf education or working with individuals with autism and developmental disabilities.
- Implement individualized education programs (IEPs) and support the goals outlined for each student to ensure personalized learning experiences.
- Use American Sign Language (ASL) or other communication methods to facilitate effective interactions with students who have communication challenges.
- Help supervise children during activities, transitions, meals, outdoor play, and rest periods to ensure safety and engagement.
- Contribute to curriculum development by assisting in lesson planning that incorporates literacy education, math skills, behavior management techniques, and inclusive practices for diverse learners.
- Maintain detailed documentation of student progress, behavior incidents, and classroom activities in compliance with the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) guidelines.
- Collaborate with colleagues and families to support each child's social-emotional growth and academic success.
Experience
- Prior experience working with children in preschool or early childhood settings is highly preferred.
- Demonstrated knowledge of childhood development theories and classroom management strategies.
- Experience supporting students with disabilities or special education needs, including familiarity with IEPs and accommodations.
- Background in deaf education or working with individuals who use American Sign Language is a plus.
- Previous involvement in curriculum development or lesson planning within private schools or early childhood programs is advantageous.
- Strong communication skills to effectively interact with children, families, and team members.
- Knowledge of behavior management techniques tailored for diverse learners and classroom environments.
- Familiarity with Montessori methods or other educational philosophies that promote child-centered learning is desirable.
