Purpose of Position:
To facilitate appropriate and responsible adoptions for dogs and cats in the OK Humane
Adoption Program.

Your particular type of OCD skews towards an inability to walk past a display without straightening something, a smudged window without wiping something, or a dust bunny without sweeping something.

If you’re not multi-tasking you just don’t feel complete.
Duties & Responsibilities:
In accordance with organizational policies, duties include but are not limited to:

Responsible for placing dogs and cats in appropriate homes.
-
Works closely with Foster/Volunteer Coordinator to schedule animals drop-offs and pickups.
-
Works closely with members of OK Humane to determine volunteer needs on a regular basis or for one-time projects/events.
-
Clean and sanitize cat and dog living areas.
-
Clean and sanitize stainless steel cat cages.
-
Daily feeding and fresh water.
-
Assist foster parents with animal drop-offs and pickups.
-
Perform daily cleaning and sanitizing of work and public areas.
-
Assist in administering animal vaccinations, tests, medications, and treatments as directed.
-
Assist with general questions and requests from the public.
-
Assist with transporting or arranging transport of pets between various OK Humane locations as needed.
-
Monitor animals and immediately report health or behavior abnormalities to the supervisor.
-
Maintains timely and accurate electronic records and hard files of adoptions.
-
Performs follow-up calls with adopters.
-
Working with volunteers and staff to enhance the overall experience for the public at the adoption center.
-
Manage retail display and sales.
-
Operate cash register and follow set cash handling standard operating procedures.
-
Follow established disease control protocols to daily clean, disinfect, and maintain shelter apartments, kennels, cages, and general areas.
-
Operate laundry and dishwashing equipment.
-
Restock cleaning areas with supplies and equipment.
-
Maintain equipment in working condition, and report equipment or supply needs to supervisor.
-
Maintain work and general areas in an organized manner.
-
Work with staff and other OK Humane locations to schedule, coordinate, and perform transport of program animals to and from the adoption center, intake facility, in-house clinic, or other necessary locations to facilitate adoptions or other needed care for program animals.

Other duties as assigned.
Job Requirements:

Must be a high school graduate or equivalent.
-
Must have a valid driver’s license, a clean driving record, and be comfortable learning to drive and driving OK Humane fleet vehicles.

Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills, a professional, tactful, mature, and sincere attitude, and be able to represent the mission, goals, and policies of OK Humane in a creative, credible, and energetic manner.

Experience in pet adoption counseling is preferred but not mandatory
-
Must be able to work maturely and respectfully with diverse groups of people.
-
Must be organized, flexible, and adjust to rapid, changing needs.
-
Must be knowledgeable and comfortable with computer systems used in operations and have basic computer skills, including database skills (ex. Word, Excel, Outlook, database, and mail merge).

Knowledge of and commitment to animal welfare issues is strongly preferred.
-
Commitment to the mission, values, goals, and success of OK Humane.

Must be proficient in MS Office.

Ability to follow directions and multitask.
-
Position will require weekend days and evenings.

Retail sales experience preferred.
-
Excellent customer service.
-
Confidence handling or learning to handle both dogs and cats.

Ability to work within a team environment while on the go.
Physical Requirements:
Work may be performed in a kennel/shelter setting and outdoors.

Must be able to work standing or sitting for 8 or more hours.
-
Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds repeatedly throughout the day with help.
-
Must be able to bend and kneel repeatedly.
-
Must have a good range of motion in joints, especially wrist, knees, and elbows.
-
Must have a good range of motion in your back, for instance, twisting.
-
Must be able to work in potentially extreme environmental temperatures.
-
Must be able to use a ladder and or step stool.
-
Must possess excellent hand-eye coordination.
-
Must possess an acceptable degree of dexterity in hands and fingers. Exposure to disinfectant solutions when cleaning.

Subject to animal bites and scratches while handling animals of questionable temperament.
