We are seeking a dynamic and compassionate Pre-Operative / PACU (Post-Anesthesia Care Unit) Registered Nurse to join our dedicated perioperative team. Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive pre-operative assessments, including vital signs, medical history review, and patient education on procedures and recovery expectations.
- Monitor patients closely in the PACU, managing airway patency, vital signs, and pain levels with precision and compassion.
- Administer medications safely, including IV infusions and injections, following strict aseptic techniques and hospital protocols.
- Utilize EMR (Electronic Medical Records) systems such as Epic or Cerner to document patient care accurately and efficiently.
- Collaborate with surgical teams, anesthesiologists, and other healthcare professionals to coordinate patient care plans tailored to individual needs.
- Manage acute pain and respond swiftly to emergent situations like airway compromise or adverse reactions during recovery.
- Educate patients and families about post-operative care instructions, discharge planning, and follow-up procedures to promote safe recovery at home or in long-term care settings.
Experience
- Proven experience working as a registered nurse in perioperative settings such as OR (Operating Room), PACU, ICU (Intensive Care Unit), or emergency medicine.
- Strong background in critical care practices including airway management, ventilator support, IV insertion, sterile processing, and aseptic technique.
- Familiarity with EMR/EHR systems like Epic or Cerner for accurate medical documentation and coding (ICD-10/ICD-9).
- Experience with diverse patient populations including pediatrics, geriatrics, individuals with disabilities or developmental delays, and those requiring complex pain management or hospice & palliative care.
- Knowledge of infection control standards, trauma medicine (Level I/II Trauma Center experience), and acute care procedures such as suturing or specimen collection.
- Ability to perform thorough physical examinations, vital sign assessments, medication administration, and patient assessment with physiological knowledge.
- Prior experience in outpatient surgery centers or hospital environments emphasizing patient safety standards aligned with NCQA standards.
