YACS Creative Learners from Pre-Kindergarten through 12th grade are provided with appropriate arts-integrated learning activities and experiences designed to fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth.
Job Description: To assist creative learners in the educational process by providing strategic services that address the attendance and school engagement challenges that interfere with learning. Working with parents/guardians, teachers, principals, school leaders, and community-based resources, the Attendance Improvement Specialist implements strategies that promote creative learners’ positive school attendance and adjustment, which aligns with YACS Mission and Vision. This position is responsible for enforcing the rules and policies of the district for proper school attendance. This position shall make every effort to ensure that students attend school regularly when not ill and report to class promptly. The Specialist shall also work cooperatively with teachers, social workers, school administrators, and parents to ensure compliance with attendance laws and regulations and other related duties as required.
Key Responsibilities:
- Maintain the confidentiality of learners.
- Maintain documentation of services and data records.
- Create and refine multi-tiered systems of support related to attendance.
- Monitor daily attendance and identify patterns of absenteeism, tardiness, and early dismissals.
- Develop incentives, campaigns, and district-wide initiatives to promote positive attendance habits.
- Email and mail attendance letters in accordance with school, district, and state policies.
- Confer regularly with supervisors, office personnel, and school principals regarding learner attendance and welfare.
- Work closely with all school personnel regarding matters related to student attendance and welfare.
- Investigate non-attendance to ensure the legitimacy of absence excuses.
- Oversee attendance accounting and the preparation of attendance reports.
- Enforce the district’s rules and regulations related to school attendance.
- Make phone calls and hold conferences with families to address attendance concerns.
- Develop Individualized Student Attendance Plans (ISAPs)
- Make home visits as necessary.
- Facilitate individual and small groups of learners focused on school engagement and building pro-social skills.
- Submit truancy referrals in accordance with school, district, and state policy.
- Collaborate with school staff and other school system personnel, including the A/BiT/MTSS/SAT teams.
- Coordinate Makeup Seat Time (MUST) program for the district.
- Responsible for tracking student makeup seat time and accurately updating learner attendance records within five business days of attendance makeup.
- Coordinate with afterschool programming staff and coaches about attendance policies and MUST.
- Coordinate approval and documentation of student extenuating circumstances.
- Determine and implement appropriate interventions, including, but not limited to, referrals to community resources.
- Create and conduct staff professional development as it relates to learner attendance and welfare.
- Provide parent/guardian educational workshops.
- All other duties as assigned by the supervisor to support learner success.

Salary and Benefits
This position is full-time and is guaranteed for one school year, with additional years pending grant funding. Salary is highly competitive and commensurate with experience.
