Position Description
The Network Operations Intern will assist the TxDOT Infrastructure Services team with network monitoring, device inventory management, compliance reporting, and telecommunications tracking initiatives. This position provides hands-on experience working with enterprise monitoring platforms, network management systems, compliance validation processes, and infrastructure lifecycle management under the guidance of senior network engineers.
Essential Duties:- Assist with network device discovery, inventory validation, and monitoring activities within the SolarWinds platform.
- Support development, testing, and maintenance of SolarWinds NCM compliance policies, configuration standards, and compliance reporting.
- Reconcile network device inventories and identify documentation gaps, outdated records, and unmanaged assets.
- Maintain accurate assets, location, ownership, and system information within departmental tracking systems.
- Generate reports and dashboards using SolarWinds and Microsoft Excel to support operational, compliance, and inventory initiatives.
- Analyze monitoring and compliance data to identify trends, discrepancies, and opportunities for process improvement.
- Assist with tracking telecommunications circuits, connectivity services, and related infrastructure assets.
- Support documentation and validation of circuit inventories, service ownership, and lifecycle activities.
- Create and update technical documentation, procedures, and inventory records.
- Participate in network modernization and operational improvement projects while working alongside experienced network engineering staff.
- Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
Must be a student in high school or other educational institution or accepted into a college, university or educational institution.
Must be at least 16 years of age, a student currently enrolled in high school or any institution of higher education to include a trade/vocational school.
Employees at least 18 years of age with valid driver's license may be assigned driving duties and may use power tools.
- Makes copies and distributes as instructed.
- Receives and manages email communications
- Perform preliminary research on assignments and gather pertinent data.
- Performs routine word processing duties and conducts quality checks of documents created.
- Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.
