Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate School Nurse to join our team. The ideal candidate will play a crucial role in promoting student health and wellness, providing care for acute and chronic health issues, and ensuring a safe school environment. This position requires strong clinical skills, excellent communication abilities, and a passion for working with children. The School Nurse will collaborate with educators, parents, and healthcare providers to support the physical and emotional well-being of students. This employee will work up to 37.5-40 hours every 2 weeks. This is a 98 day contract.
Responsibilities
- Under the supervision of the Nursing Director/Principal
- Provide direct nursing care to students with various health needs, including administering medications and treatments as prescribed.
- Manage chronic health conditions such as asthma, diabetes, allergies, and other medical issues in the school setting.
- Develop and implement individualized healthcare plans (IHPs) for students with specific health needs.
- Maintain accurate medical documentation in compliance with HIPAA regulations and school policies.
- Educate students and staff on health-related topics such as nutrition, hygiene, disease prevention, and emergency procedures.
- Collaborate with parents and guardians regarding student health concerns and provide resources for further care if needed.
- Respond to medical emergencies in the school setting by providing first aid or coordinating emergency services as necessary.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of relevant medical practices, school policies, and state regulations regarding student health services.
- Coordinate the Telemedicine Program in the school.
- Performs other duties relevant to a school nurse position in a school clinic setting.
- Attend IEP and 504 meetings, as necessary, for those children with special health care needs to provide medical input and assist with goal development.
Qualifications
- Valid Tennnessee Registered Nurse license .
- Experience in public health or in child health is preferred.
- Current CPR BLS Certification
- Valid TN Driver’s License
- Knowledge of Diabetes Management, Gastrostomy Tube Feedings, Tracheostomy Suctioning and Catheterizations of school age children.
- Knowledge of growth and development and health problems/conditions commonly seen among school-age children
- Knowledge of the treatment and nursing care needs of children with special health problems
- This position requires someone who is flexible in adapting to changing situations and work orders; work courteously and cooperatively with administration, staff and parents; demonstrate respect, compassion and caring for children; be confidential, work efficiently and effectively; and must be committed to documentation and safety
- Ability to work independently while also being an effective team player within the school environment.
