Job Summary:
- Responsible, under the direction of the Director of Nursing, for nursing care to patients within an assigned unit.
- Oversees charge nurses to assure all vital signs are taken and recorded.
- Is knowledgeable of patients’ conditions at all times and supervises nursing care according to physician’s orders and in conformance with recognized nursing techniques and procedures, established standards and administrative policies.
- Supervises medication pass as prescribed by physician and follow through on any reactions.
- Is able to recognize and interpret symptoms, report on patients’ conditions, and assist with or institute remedial measures for adverse developments.
- Assists physicians in diagnostic and therapeutic measures through nursing assessment and administers medications and treatments as prescribed.
- Sets up treatment trays, prepares instruments and other equipment, and assists physician with treatments. Assists in administering highly specialized therapy with equipment.
- Assumes responsibility for proper care of apparatus used in treating patients and maintains accurate and complete records of nursing observations and care.
- Assists in maintaining a physical, social, and psychological environment which will be conducive to the best interests and welfare of the patients.
Qualifications:
- EDUCATION: RN graduated from an accredited school of nursing. Current registration with State Board of Nurse Examiners. Ability to speak, read and write English. Ability to follow written and oral direction.
- TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE: Will receive in-service training in special areas. One year experience in supervisory capacity is preferable. Should possess managerial skills. Should be familiar with organization, functions, policies, regulations and procedures of nursing homes as they relate to nursing services. Should have knowledge of literature and new developments in the nursing field.
- ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Ambulates, positions, transfers and turns residents at a minimum of fifty (50) pounds frequently. Turns, crouches, kneels, stoops, bends below waist and reaches above shoulder height frequently. Climbs stairs frequently. Walks, sits and stands frequently. Lifts and/or carries objects at a minimum of fifty (50) pounds frequently. Pushes and/or pulls equipment at a minimum of one hundred (100) pounds frequently. Uses sight and auditory senses. Possesses good finger and hand dexterity.
