Position: Independent Supported Living (ISL) Direct Support Professional (DSP)
Schedule: Evening Shift (4:00 PM – 12:00 AM) or Overnight Shift (12:00 AM – 8:00 AM). Shifts may include weekdays, weekends, and holidays. Availability Monday through Sunday is required based on program needs.
Position Summary
The Independent Supported Living (ISL) Direct Support Professional (DSP) provides compassionate, person-centered support to individuals with developmental disabilities living in their own homes. DSPs assist individuals in developing and maintaining independent living skills while promoting dignity, choice, community involvement, and personal growth. Staff are responsible for ensuring the health, safety, and well-being of the individuals they support while following all agency policies and state regulations.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Individual Supports
- Assist individuals with activities of daily living, including personal hygiene, dressing, grooming, and meal preparation as needed.
- Encourage independence by teaching and supporting daily living skills.
- Assist individuals with housekeeping, laundry, grocery shopping, budgeting, cooking, and home organization.
- Support individuals in achieving their personal goals and increasing independence.
Community Integration
- Transport individuals to appointments, shopping, recreational activities, and community events.
- Encourage participation in community activities and social opportunities.
- Promote positive relationships and community inclusion.
Health and Safety
- Ensure the health, safety, and welfare of all individuals served.
- Administer medications as trained and authorized by agency policy.
- Observe and report changes in behavior, health, or medical conditions.
- Respond appropriately to emergencies and follow agency emergency procedures.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized living environment.
Documentation
- Complete all required daily documentation before the end of each shift.
- Accurately document services provided, progress toward goals, and significant events.
- Report incidents, injuries, medication errors, or concerns promptly according to agency policy.
- Maintain confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA and agency policies.
Overnight Responsibilities (12:00 AM – 8:00 AM)
- Conduct scheduled health and safety checks throughout the night.
- Ensure the home remains secure and safe.
- Complete assigned cleaning and housekeeping duties.
- Prepare for the morning routine as assigned.
- Complete all overnight documentation before the end of the shift.
- Respond appropriately to emergencies or individual needs during overnight hours.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED (required).
- Valid Missouri driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
- Class E driver's license or ability to obtain within agency requirements.
- Ability to pass state and federal background checks.
- CPR/First Aid certification (or ability to obtain).
- Level 1 Medication Aide certification (or ability to obtain if required).
- Must successfully complete the Missouri MO-TAP Direct Support Professional Apprenticeship Program to become a Certified Direct Support Professional (DSP).
- Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
- Experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities is preferred but not required.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to assist individuals with personal care.
- Ability to bend, stoop, kneel, reach, and stand for extended periods.
- Ability to safely operate agency vehicles.
Compensation
Pay is based on experience, qualifications, and certifications.

Pay: $17.50 - $19.00 per hour
