This application is for high school teachers seeking consideration and approval to serve as a Transcripted Credit Instructor. Transcripted Credit Instructors teach approved Gateway college courses within their high school while remaining employed by their K-12 school district.
Transcripted Credit gives high school students the opportunity to take a Gateway Technical College course as part of their high school experience.
Approved Transcripted Credit Instructors teach the college course at their high school. Students who successfully complete the course earn college credit.
This application allows Gateway to review a high school teacher's education, credentials, occupational experience, and other applicable qualifications to determine eligibility to teach specific transcripted credit courses.
1. You Teach at Your High School
Transcripted Credit Instructors are high school teachers who teach an approved Gateway college course within their high school.
2. Students Earn College Credit
Students who successfully complete the approved college course earn Gateway Technical College credit.
3. Gateway Reviews Instructor Qualifications
Instructor qualifications vary by course, department, and academic discipline. Gateway reviews each applicant's credentials against the requirements applicable to the course or area they are seeking approval to teach.
Qualifications vary by course and instructional area.
Each department or instructional area may require specific education, occupational experience, licenses, certifications, skills, and abilities. High school teachers are responsible for reviewing and discussing the requirements for the course or instructional area for which they are applying.
High School Teacher Requirements
- Must be employed as a secondary school instructor in a K-12 district within the Gateway Technical College district.
- Must hold a current Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction (DPI) license. A copy is required at the time of application.
- Must be able to work the hours required for the applicable course or instructional assignment.
- Must meet the applicable education, occupational experience, credential, and/or discipline-specific requirements for the Gateway course being taught.
Depending on the course or instructional area, applicants may qualify through one of the following:
Pathway 1: A Bachelor's degree in the content area being taught.
Pathway 2: A Bachelor's of Education in the content area being taught, plus substantial tested experience.
Pathway 3: A Bachelor's degree in a non-related content area with no fewer than 14,000 hours of applicable work experience.
Per Higher Learning Commission (HLC) guidelines, instructors teaching a General Education course must qualify through one of the following pathways:
Pathway 1: A Master's degree in the content area being taught.
Pathway 2: A Master's in Education or a non-related Master's degree, plus 18 graduate credits in the content area being taught.
Pathway 3: A non-related Master's degree, plus a DPI License in the content area, 5 or more years of teaching experience in the content area, and AP Summer Institute Certification in the related content area.

Please be prepared to provide documentation that allows Gateway to evaluate your qualifications for the applicable course or instructional area.
Official College Transcripts
Copies of official college transcripts highlighting the related degree awarded and date conferred are required at the time of application.
Current Resume
Submit your most current resume highlighting relevant occupational, professional, and non-teaching experience.
Current DPI License
High school teachers must hold a current Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction (DPI) license. A copy is required at the time of application.
Applicable Certifications
Submit any additional licenses or certifications required for the course or instructional area, if applicable.
Instructor qualifications are course-specific.
Review and discuss the requirements for the specific course or instructional area you wish to teach. Meeting general application requirements does not by itself establish eligibility to teach every Gateway transcripted credit course.
